Position Summary

The Department of Neurology, University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is seeking to recruit a BC/BE adult neurologist at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, fellowship trained in epilepsy.

Expertise in intracranial EEG and epilepsy surgery including sEEG and neurostimulation are required. Research interests are encouraged. The candidate will join a dynamic group of six epileptologists and an active EMU practice that includes 12 monitoring beds as well as LTM services. Compensation packages are commensurate with credentials.

Your duties as an Academic Scholar – Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor include:

Clinical Duties – 80% of time
  • A clinical commitment of 80% full time equivalent [ FTE ] to be devoted to the adult neurology program. We expect that you will staff the adult epilepsy and general neurology clinics with a goal of further developing your expertise as an adult epileptologist.
  • The outpatient clinic schedule would follow this general outline. For weeks that you are not covering the adult General Neurology inpatient service you would have 7 outpatient clinical sessions a week. This weekly template would include:
  • Six half days of outpatient clinic at either BGMC /Conventus or the Williamsville clinic concentrating on adult epilepsy. If adequate numbers of epilepsy patients are not available, you may be asked to see some general neurology issues. It is expected that over time, your outpatient schedule will be fully devoted to adult epilepsy and related conditions.
  • The outpatient schedule for weeks that you are covering the inpatient service or the LTM service would be reduced by 50% or more, as required to adequately cover the inpatient service
  • You will be on a rotating schedule with the child and adult epileptologists on the EEG reading panel. Approximately one-half day of effort is required for this activity.
  • Coverage of the LTM unit at WCHOB will initially be under the supervision of one of our senior epileptologists. After approximately 6 months, you will assume a more independent status and will cover the LTM unit approximately one week out of every 10th week. This frequency will increase once the new LTM unit is completed in the Oishei Children’s Hospital.
  • You will participate in interpretation of routine evoked potential interpretation at BGMC . Training can be provided through the epilepsy section if needed.
  • You will have the option of participating in Intraoperative Monitoring for cases performed at BGMC .
  • Coverage of the General Neurology inpatient service will be 5 to 7 weeks a year based on current projections.
  • You will participate in supervision of the continuity clinic for adult neurology residents. This schedule is approximately one-half day every 4 to 6 weeks.
Educational Duties – 20% of time
  • You will teach medical students, residents, and fellows. This includes mentoring and giving didactic lectures, particularly in fields of interest including neurophysiology and epilepsy.
