Under the general direction of the vice president for community and inclusivity, the director of inclusive excellence (Director) is responsible for developing and implementing events and programs that educate and engage the Hood Community in its ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging. The Director also shall provide education to undergraduate and graduate students, and staff and faculty regarding issues and experiences of sex and gender-based violence and assist in the development of a healthy sexual campus culture. The Director will work collaboratively with campus partners to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Belonging (65%)
- Assist the vice president for community and inclusivity (VPCI) with the implementation and assessment of the College’s goals and strategic priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion as stated in the For the Greater Hood Strategic Plan.
- Work closely with academic and administrative offices, including the Human Resources Office and other Division of Community and Inclusivity staff, in fulfilling the College’s commitment to DEI.
- Develop, coordinate and implement programming and workshops at least bi-monthly focused on DEI and belonging for students, faculty and staff.
- Assist the VPCI with the analysis, monitoring, and dissemination of institutional data to benchmark and promote accountability for DEI and belonging.
- Advise and mentor designated diversity, equity and inclusion student organizations, and related future student groups on campus in consultation with the Director of Student Engagement and the VPCI.
- Review and utilize evidence-based research, programs and policies regarding best practices in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Create, implement and assess campus-wide programming related to healthy relationships, violence prevention and sexual consent.
- Create and implement a sustainable bystander training program for all first-year and transfer students as well as for upper class students.
- Provide support to students and appropriate and timely referrals to the Title IX Coordinator, medical or mental health services providers, and other on- and off-campus resources as needed.
- Maintain updated websites for the VPCI, DEI, the harassment, bias, and discrimination policy, and sexual assault prevention.
- Develops and maintain active relationships with both internal and external constituencies including Heartly House, The Frederick Center, Frederick Health, Frederick City Police, etc.

Education and/or Experience
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Master’s degree and two or more years of experience working with a diverse student and employee population.
- Deep understanding and experience with bystander education training.
- Proven experience working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels in a complex environment to facilitate positive processes, initiatives, and measurable outcomes and deliverables.
- Embraces the concept of inclusive excellence and has a strong desire to work in a culture that values continuous growth, well-being, and student-centeredness.
- Strong skills in cultural humility and diversity, equity and inclusivity practices.
- Knowledge and experience in implementing and disseminating evidence-based and research-informed sexual assault prevention programming.
- Experience working with students with history of complex trauma, including interpersonal violence and sexual assault and/or relationship violence.
- Must be available to work some nights and weekends.
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications. Ability to create dynamic and engaging slide deck presentations.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, faculty, staff, and other constituencies.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
