Position Description

The Department of Marital & Family Therapy at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for (2) Tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2023.

Department of Marital & Family Therapy

The Department of Marital & Family Therapy at CSU Dominguez Hills is a department within the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing (CHHSN). The Masters of Science Degree in Marital & Family Therapy is the result of a 63-unit program that is both academic and clinical in its emphasis. It is also approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and attracts both full-time and part-time students. It is intended for students who wish to prepare for MFT internships and licensure after graduation.

The Position

The successful candidates will be expected to teach core and specialization courses in the Marital and Family Therapy Program, as well as supervise students through the practicum courses. Faculty members are also expected to demonstrate scholarly productivity, as reflected in publications and professional presentations as part of the Retention, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) process. Program related responsibilities include but are not limited to student advising/mentoring, admissions, curriculum assessment and development, participation in program governance as a core faculty member, and university service. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity and social justice in their role as a faculty member. Applications are due by December 15, 2022 with an anticipated start date in August of 2023.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include teaching core and clinical courses and providing supervision, participating in program governance as a core faculty member, advancing scholarly work, and engaging in service to the profession and university. Full-time professors are usually expected to have a teaching load of at least 12 units per semester. Three units could be credited to this load by service on departmental, college, and university committees, writing and implementing a grant, or representing the program and the university with accreditation and professional organizations. The successful candidate will also be directly responsible for the academic advising, supervising, training, and mentoring of MFT students. Since this is a tenure-track (10 month-AY) position, the successful candidate is expected to follow a Retention, Tenure and Promotion (RTP) process; scholarly activity/publication is expected. Active participation in the professional guilds (California Association of Marital & Family Therapy (CAMFT), the American Association of Marital & Family Therapy (AAMFT), and the Marital & Family Therapy Consortium of California and their meetings/conferences) is strongly encouraged. Service to the campus is very important, so the faculty member must be available to serve in the departmental, college, or university. In addition, the successful candidate should have awareness and experience with COAMFTE accreditation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Doctorate in Marital (Couple) and Family Therapy from an accredited institution; Well-qualified doctoral candidates will be considered; all requirements for degree conferral must be completed before start of appointment. ABDs must indicate their anticipated degree completion date.
  • Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist - preferably in the State of California, or, at minimum, eligible for licensure in California.
  • BBS, CAMFT or AAMFT Approved Clinical Supervisor or Supervisor-in-Training Status from AAMFT

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a COAMFTE accredited program and/or knowledge and experience in MFT accreditation procedures
  • Professional publication and grant writing experiences

Employment Requirement

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Additional Information

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
