Job Description

As Prospect Management Data Analyst, you will leverage data to better identify and elevate Virginia Tech alumni and philanthropic prospects by gathering insights and performing data analysis on managed prospects, fundraiser portfolios, and Virginia Tech’s donor pipeline. In this pivotal role, you will help enrich and streamline existing departmental reporting and fundraiser metric tracking to achieve a best in class Prospect Development shop. You will turn extensive data streams into actionable information for our partners, who include Advancement leadership and front-line development and engagement officers.

The Prospect Management Data Analyst will create and monitor broad-based prospect pools to accomplish alumni participation and revenue goals. In collaboration with Prospect Research, the Prospect Management Data Analyst will apply a lens toward discovering new donor and prospect trends and refining or creating internal predictive scoring. The Prospect Management Data Analyst will apply innovative ways to look at prospect data to ensure key audiences are appropriately assigned and engaged, and will serve as a primary data liaison supporting overall Advancement goals and leadership reporting. Reporting to the Associate Director of Prospect Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

- Continuously conducting pipeline analysis to discover trends, insights, and gaps among prospect pools, portfolios, and donor segments
- Developing concise, logical, and accurate prospect development related reports, charts, presentations, and fundraising analytics and presenting findings in a personable, relatable manner
- Leveraging data analytics skills to assist in the creation of predictive and descriptive models and scores to help facilitate strategic and financial goals
- Managing, tracking, and reporting on activity within prospect pools; making recommendations to positively influence fundraising and engagement goals
- Deriving conclusions and identifying trends through the statistical analysis of internal and external data to provide research-driven recommendations and action plans to partners across Advancement
- Developing and validating new or enhanced reports and dashboards, in partnership with the Advancement Reporting team
- Proactively identifying and recommending systematic improvements of key prospecting data points and projects
- Conducting analysis and benchmarking with peers to recommend enhancements and improvements for the future work of prospect development
- Assessing priorities and needs, managing own schedule, monitoring progress and re-prioritizing as necessary; completing work on time with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications

- Master's degree, or bachelor's degree in Analytics, Statistics, Business or a related field and extensive experience
- Proven experience using database software, developing queries, analyzing reports, and presenting findings using tools such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access
- Demonstrated competency in manipulating data, creation/refinement of data visualizations, and dashboard usage/development
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and competing deadlines while working with a high degree of speed and accuracy, with strong attention to detail
- Professional and relatable communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals in an inclusive environment
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or in close team environments; demonstrate discretion in working with confidential information and use sound judgment in decision-making

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau and SAS
- Knowledge of principles, practices and ethics of fundraising
- Experience in higher education, nonprofits, fundraising, or marketing
- Experience defining goals and KPIs
