Job Description
The Director of Student-Athlete Development and Leadership will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive program to address the components with the student-athlete population: academic excellence, personal development and career development. This will include but not be limited to, establishing a holistic approach to the leadership development of all student-athletes from the recruiting stage to graduation.
Duties & Responsibilities
Student-Athlete Development & Leadership Program:
Develop and coordinate a 12-month comprehensive Student-Athlete Development & Leadership program series that is inclusive to addressing the needs of all student-athletes at the various stages of their academic and athletic careers while utilizing on and off campus.
- Assisting student-athletes with career planning, internships, and job search strategies.
- Organizing and maintaining a resume database for all student-athletes.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of all programming designed to support student-athletes in the areas of leadership training, community service and character.
- Collaborate with units in the Division of Student Activities as the athletics representative focusing on campus resources, helping student -athletes adjust to campus life and integrating them with the student body.
- Meet with prospective student-athletes and families during official and unofficial visits.
- Attend Open House, Accepted Students Day, Peacock Prep Day, and other University events.
- Work closely with the University, Fellowship Advisor to identify and cultivate student-athletes as nominee for prestigious fellowships/scholarships, such as Fulbright and Rhodes scholarships.
- Serve as an advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee ( SAAC ) through monthly meetings and providing support to SAAC activities as well as serve as a liaison with New Student Orientation and the University Retention committees.
- Plan various events such as; SAAC Awards Banquets, a Leadership Forum for student-athletes and individual team Senior Day award ceremonies.
- Coordinate workshops focused on drug and alcohol education and counseling, mental health, sexual abuse and other topics for student-athletes.
- Serve as a member of the University Wellness Committee
- Manage all athletic departmental community efforts in collaboration with the athletics communication staff inclusive of student-athlete community service activities and Peacock Mascot community relations appearances.
- Manage community service efforts both with and in addition to the Division of Campus Ministry and coordinating special events for coaches and athletic staff throughout the year that promote professional growth and development. Ensure that all community outreach and events comply with NCAA rules and regulations.
- Serve as an Assistant Academic Coordinator for assigned teams.
- Work with the men’s and women’s basketball team during summer school.
- Encourage students to utilize University and Academic Support for Student -Athletes resources such as tutoring, career services, student activities, and other academic serves to achieve academic success.
- Assist as a study hall monitor, meet with student-athletes for academic meetings and work one on one with student-athletes who are academically at risk.
- Assist with fall and spring registration for student-athletes in the Academic Progress Program.
- Regularly communicating student-athlete academic progress and performance to coaches, administrators, faculty and staff.
- Assist in planning the Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Celebration each semester.
- Assist with the nomination process for all institutional, regional and national athletic and academic awards.
- Serve as a professional supervisor, monitor and leader of student athletes during study hall.
- Assist with incoming student-athletes’ eligibility and certification.
- Assist with fall and spring student-athletes eligibility and certification.
- Assist with other day to day compliance related items as needed.
Commitment and sensitivity o the needs and dynamics of a culturally diverse student body that includes a large percentage of first generation and low income students. Creative, innovative and self motivated individual with the ability to work creatively in an atmosphere of limited resources. Posses strong oral and written communications skills . Commitment and sensitivity to the Jesuit Catholic ideal that form the mission of Saint Peter’s University; and unwillingness to integrate these ideals into all aspects of the Athletics Department.
Education
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Experience in event planning and management. Regular evening and weekend work is to be expected.
