Job Summary:
Coppin State University (www.coppin.edu) invites qualified candidates to apply for a Lecturer Computer Science Faculty with an anticipated start in Spring 2023. The successful candidate should have a master’s degree in Engineering Science with concentration in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Candidates must be able to teach both lower and upper-level undergraduate courses on Blackboard Ultra in computer science and cybersecurity engineering, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. Classes are taught day, evening, and weekend. Teaches computer science students on-ground and can preferably use C++, Java, Python, Linux OS, and VMware. Use of Mathematica, MATLAB, and Ras appropriate is encouraged. For the purposes of reappointment, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, class learning evaluation, and grade reporting promptness. Essential Responsibilities:
- Teach lower-level and an advanced diverse set of computer science and/or Cybersecurity Engineering courses to students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science, cybersecurity engineering (program subjected to USM approval), information technology, and computer science-related subjects. - More specifically, instruct JAVA programming language as a vehicle to teach skills relevant to sound professional programming and Data Structures content. Prepare and use programming language projects using C++, Java, and Python as appropriate for a computer science course description. Also, be able to use Kali Linux, Linux OS, and VMware for computer science students in the classroom.
- Additional opportunities may become available to teach Cybersecurity Cisco certification and/or Cisco curricula (Cisco Netacad CCNA etc.), stand alone or integrated with BS degree program core courses.
- A maximum of four ( 4) courses (3-credit hours or a combination of 4-credit hours) or less workload is assigned each semester.
- Maintain (upgrades) Cisco Certification program lab, Cybersecurity Engineering course lab and Computer Science lab for mathematics and computer science course related lab projects.
- Maintain office hours and encourage computer project debugging support to students.
- Help support MATH and Computer Science students club and student’s recruitment outreach workshops activities for potential students and in-service teachers.
- Fostering rigorous, inclusive, and high-impact learning environments for a diverse student body.
Education:
- Minimum of a master’s degree holder in Engineering Science with concentration in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning by the start date in a related discipline.
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with faculty colleagues, and underrepresented student groups on pedagogical faculty development activities.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student population. Teaching undergraduate computer science, cybersecurity engineering and Cisco Netacad CCNA, Cisco Cyber course experience is required. The ability to use computer science AI and Machine Leaming Software tools is encouraged. Experiential knowledge ofC++, Java, Python, Linux OS, and VMware in the faculty computing lab and classroom labs is desirable.
- Able to teach in the synchronous (currently using Panopto with Bb Ultra) online environment.
- Able to maintain confidential information about students and department grades and advising records. Must submit students grades promptly.
- The successful candidate must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
- Work is performed in a normal office and classroom environment, Computer Science AVCyber labs, and classroom.
