Position Description
The School of Family and Consumer Sciences invites applications for one full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty position (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) in Nutrition. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses; developing new nutrition courses; conducting research in the areas of translational, community, public health, or clinical nutrition; obtaining external funding and publishing; involving undergraduate and graduate students in research; and participating in appropriate service activities. Food science and related research will not be considered.
We seek equity-minded candidates to create a diverse and inclusive educational space within our growing Nutrition and Food (Dietetics) Programs . We are especially interested in candidates who have training and experience engaging and supporting diverse populations in education, research, and practice. Collectively, this position includes teaching, scholarship, and professional service. All positions are subject to availability of funds.
Required Qualifications
For the Professor rank:
- Earned PhD or equivalent doctorate degree in nutrition (with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in nutrition);
- Extensive experience (as the instructor of record) teaching both undergraduate and graduate students at an accredited four-year university;
- Experience mentoring graduate student research including service as chair of thesis or dissertation committees;
- Extensive experience engaging in translational, clinical, or community-related nutrition research;
- An active research program related to one or more of the
following areas:
- The role of nutrition in prevention, management, and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, or other chronic diseases;
- Maternal and fetal/child development and nutrition;
- Nutrition across the lifespan;
- Behavioral nutrition, nutrition education and counseling;
- Nutrition epidemiology;
- Clinical nutrition research;
- Functional or performance nutrition;
- Structural, systemic, environmental, and sociocultural factors related to nutrition, including food insecurity, health disparities, and health equity;
- Current strong and competitive external funding (e.g., federal agencies) as PI or Co-PI;
- A significant, recent record of publications in impactful journals related to the above-mentioned research topics;
- Evidence of leadership related to departmental, school, college, or university-level service; and
- Earned Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree in nutrition (with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in nutrition);
- Extensive experience (as the instructor of record) teaching undergraduate and graduate students at an accredited four-year university;

- Previous or current external funding as PI or Co-PI;
- A strong, recent record of publications in impactful journals related to the above-mentioned research topics;
- Evidence of leadership related to departmental, school, college, or university-level service; and
- Earned Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree in nutrition (with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in nutrition);
- Experience teaching at an accredited college or university;
- Experience engaging with human participants, patients, or clients in community, clinical, or translational nutrition research;
- An active research program related to one or more of the
following areas:
- The role of nutrition in prevention, management, and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, or other chronic diseases;
- Maternal and fetal/child development and nutrition;
- Nutrition across the lifespan;
- Behavioral nutrition, nutrition education and counseling;
- Nutrition epidemiology;
- Clinical nutrition research;
- Functional or performance nutrition;
- Structural, systemic, environmental, and sociocultural factors related to nutrition, including food insecurity, health disparities, and health equity;
- Experience writing or co-writing grant applications for external funding;
- Recent publications in impactful journals related to the above-mentioned research topics; and
Preferred Qualifications
For the Professor rank:
- Registered dietitian credential;
- Relevant work or research experience as a registered dietitian in the clinic or community;
- Research involving human participants;
- Engagement of undergraduate students in research;
- Demonstrated outcomes and programmatic approaches for teaching diverse students or working with diverse populations in research;
- Demonstrated innovations and outcomes related to multicultural approaches in teaching or research;
- Faculty teaching or professional research awards;
- Demonstrated professional leadership in service to the academy and profession; and
- Undergraduate degree in nutrition.
For the Associate Professor rank:
- Registered dietitian credential;
- Relevant experience as a registered dietitian working in community or clinical settings;
- Current external funding;
- Engagement of undergraduate students in research;
- Demonstrated outcomes and programmatic approaches for teaching diverse students or working with diverse populations in research;
- Demonstrated innovations and outcomes related to multicultural approaches in teaching or research;
- Faculty teaching or professional research awards;
- Demonstrated professional leadership in service to the academy and profession; and
- Undergraduate degree in nutrition.
Assistant Professor:
- Registered dietitian credential;
- Relevant experience as a registered dietitian working in community or clinical settings;
- Post-doctoral or professional experience in community, clinical, or translational nutrition research with human participants, patients, or clients;
- Experience teaching courses (as instructor of record) at the collegiate level;
- Experience applying for federal grants;
- Experience securing external funding as a PI, Co-PI, or as the nutrition lead;
- Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students;
- Experience teaching diverse students or working with diverse populations in research;
- Teaching or research awards; and
- Undergraduate degree in nutrition.
