This is a full-time benefits-eligible position. Position Purpose

Serves as operational support to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources in the following areas:
  1. Recommend, and administer procedures and policies relating to the University’s employment programs. Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and University policy.
  2. Supervise the staff in the Office of Human Resources.
  3. Preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic reports for compliance and analysis.
  4. Provide assistance in the investigation of employee relations matters.
  5. Assis with the development and implementation of employment-related training

Experience

1. Five (5) years progressive experience in Human Resources at a professional level; two years must be in employment and/or classification/compensation administration.
2. Two (2) years supervisory experience.
3. Three (3) years’ experience in organizational administration where responsibilities included personnel, budget, report writing, presentation delivery, and other written/oral communication skills were required. Specifically:
• Demonstrated ability to direct, manage, plan, organize, coordinate, research, and schedule
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, work with, and communicate with individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills, both interpersonally and publicly with groups ranging from 5 – 300 individuals
• Demonstrated ability to assert one’s self in meeting and greeting people in a variety of settings
4. Experience implementing and maintaining an integrated administrative computing system (Banner preferred).
5. Higher education experience preferred.

-Working knowledge of the functional areas of human resources, including: payroll, benefits, classification and compensation, employment, employee relations, and performance management preferred.
-Incumbent is expected to maintain current knowledge of office and University policies, procedures, and practices, and HR-related law, including the Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ), employment law, Workers’ Compensation, the Family Medical Leave Act ( FMLA ), etc.
-Ability to train and communicate with all levels of University employees.
-Ability to brainstorm, innovation, creativity.
-Demonstrated customer service orientation.
-Knowledge of Total Quality Management ( TQM )/Continuous Quality Improvement ( CQI ) philosophy, processes, and applications.
-Public speaking skills.
-Writing and editing skills, including grammar and spelling.
-Working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ) to make exempt status determinations preferred.
-Working knowledge of employment law preferred.
-Working knowledge of classification systems, preferably work comparison systems or point factor systems preferred.
-Working knowledge of performance management systems and/or performance management issues preferred.
-Working knowledge of statistics to develop and administer surveys and analyze results preferred.
