POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in Center for International Education beginning  June 1, 2023. The working title for this assignment is Study Abroad Manager with an official title of International Programs Manager.  This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance and funding.  The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications with salary range of $45,000 to $49,000 and full benefits package.

This position manages a portfolio of study abroad programs; serves as the lead course designer and instructor for the one-credit, pre-departure orientation class; and lead manager for the study abroad integrated learning assessments (I1.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field and minimum 9 months professional experience in international education and/or higher education or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and minimum 3 years professional experience in international educational education and/or higher education
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills to interact effectively and professionally with a variety of constituencies both on and off-campus, in the U.S. and abroad.  
  • Strong written/oral communication with ability to consider audience and adapt communication style as needed.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to details in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • US citizen or permanent resident

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Familiarity with the Forum on Education Abroad Standards of Good Practice
  • Previous experience in the following areas:
    • Study abroad program administration
    • Curriculum development, online instructional design, and assessment
    • Budget development and management
    • Academic advising
    • Terra Dotta software
    • Producing written documentation and protocols
    • Theory and practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion

DUTIES:

Program Management & Advising

1. Administer study abroad and exchange programs as assigned.

  • Act as principal program liaison for students, faculty and partner abroad.
  • Advise students at all stages of the process, pre-departure, while abroad, and upon return.
  • Keep current with changing developments abroad relative to student security and safety and advising students accordingly.
  • Liaise with CISI insurance regarding student medical and mental health issues.
  • Provide basic information on visa requirements and application processes.
  • Develop and administer semester and short-term budgets, including preparing annual agreements where required.
  • Create/maintain web pages and other promotional materials.
  • Create/maintain pre-departure orientation materials and present at orientation as needed.
  • Create/maintain University course masters and catalogue content.
  • Collect and send course descriptions for evaluation.
  • Assist with program development.

2. Keep abreast of national/international best practices for study abroad programs and policies and align UW-Eau Claire programs and policies with these practices.

Academics and Curriculum Integration

  1. Update and co-teach INTS 145, a one-credit orientation class.
  2. Integrate other pre-departure programming and related resources from BlugoldsAbroad into INTS 145.
  3. Create grading and feedback structure for co-teachers and teaching assistants.
  4. Train interns as INTS teaching assistants.
  5. Align study abroad intern positions and training with orientation model.
  6. Develop and revise Liberal Education Integrative Learning assignments and rubric.
  7. Integrate pre-departure Integrative Learning assignments into INTS 145.
  8. Oversee cohorts continuing in INTS 145 while abroad for Integrative Learning.
  9. Record completion of requirement in CampS in Student Groups.
  10. Assess/facilitate assessment of Integrative Learning requirements and reporting for University Assessment.
  11. Oversee course departmental course review for Curriculum Integration as well as development and updating of departmental major advising sheets.

University Relations

  1. Collaborate with other university entities, such as those listed, to promote study abroad for all students.

  • Center Office of Multicultural Affairs
  • Services for Students with Disabilities
  • Veterans Services 

Coordinate study abroad services with Admissions, the Business Office, Financial Aid, Housing, the Registrar’s Office and Student Health Services. Liaise with the Dean of Students office and other campus offices during a student emergency and/or conduct situation. Serve on departmental or university committees related to topics and issues that may impact study abroad.

Other

  1. Assist with the annual study abroad fair. Assist with hiring, training and resources development, and supervision of study abroad interns. Gather and report statistics for national Open Doors report through the Institute for International Education. Other duties as assigned.

THE UNIT: The Center for International Education (CIE) consists of nine highly dedicated staff members with two primary purposes- study abroad advising/program management and international student/scholar services. The study abroad division of the CIE facilitates study abroad experiences for approximately 300 students each year and has been recognized twice by the Institute for International Education for innovative programming with Andrew Heiskell awards.  UW-Eau Claire regularly appears in the Open Doors leading institutions rankings at the master’s level for total number of students abroad and on the Top-Producing U.S. Student Fulbright list.  UW-Eau Claire is also a member of the Forum on Education Abroad, the official U.S. Department of Justice standards-setting organization for education abroad. The Center for International Education study abroad section was recognized in February 2017 for meeting the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice, the first public institution to receive such recognition, and ascribes to the Forum's Code of Ethics .
