Manager, Teaching & Scholarly Learning



Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Learning Environments & Enterprise Data and Business Intelligence (LE & EDBI) in the Office of Information Technology, the Teaching and Scholarly Learning Manager is responsible for the management, development, assessment, and day-to-day operations associated with Digital Teaching and Learning. This includes managing the support of the university’s learning management system, video management system, and related applications while recommending and implementing innovative technologies and assisting with the development of policies and procedures for supporting digital learning environments. The manager will oversee both customer-facing instructional support as well as back-end development and integration of learning systems. The manager oversees the campus Accessibility efforts and serves as an advocate for accessibility initiatives. The manager must be able to work collaboratively across the department as well as the entire university. The manager will be expected to represent Rice on a national and international level. Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
  • 5 years of related experience
    • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted

Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address areas of improvement in teaching and learning
  • Manages complex projects (both technically and logistically) including project planning, implementation, staff allocation, and staff performance
  • Designs, implements, and coordinates coverage for critical instructional systems
  • Researches new and emerging technologies and software solutions, in keeping with Rice University’s instructional goals
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Promote and support the use of technology in support of the university’s educational and research missions
  • Build partnerships with the campus to work collaboratively toward institutional strategic goals that can be addressed by instructional technology
  • Collaborate with campus partners on the use of technology within in-person, hybrid and online courses
