Postdoctoral Research Fellow

About the Opportunity

Job Summary:
The School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs at Northeastern University invites applications for a full-time post-doctoral Research Fellow beginning in the Summer of 2022 to support City to City (C2C), a new initiative at Northeastern University that is focused on conducting community engaged research with the goal of finding equitable solutions to local policy problems (https://impactengines.northeastern.edu/ia/c2c/). The fellow will work closely with Professor Alicia Sasser Modestino along with other faculty to conduct policy driven research including both randomized evaluations as well as quasi-experimental assessments testing the effectiveness of various interventions in applied policy areas such as crime, education, health, housing, public health, transportation, urban/regional development, and workforce development. The position is intended to prepare inequality scholars for a faculty position at a top policy school with the option to renew for a second year.

Qualifications:
Qualifications include a Ph.D. (received or expected by July 2022) in Economics, Public Policy, Sociology, or a related discipline. We are particularly interested in fields such as applied microeconomics (especially crime, education, health, housing, and labor) as well as behavioral economics and urban economics. We encourage applications from candidates whose work advances concerns around racial justice and equity within the above areas of interest.

Candidates should also have strong evidence of a commitment to research with an interdisciplinary focus and a demonstrated interest in public policy issues with a passion for real-world impact. Experience conducting quantitative data collection and analysis is essential. Additional experience conducting randomized controlled trials, collecting survey data, and assisting with mixed methods analysis is welcome. We are particularly interested in candidates eager to engage in research-practice partnerships with states, cities, or community-based organizations to conduct impactful policy-relevant analysis.

Additional Information:
Fellows will receive an annual salary of $60,000 and serve in a 12-month appointment, beginning July 1, 2022. Fellow will be equipped with a laptop and Stata license as well as an allowance of up to $1,500 for travel to high-level conferences to present project-related research.
