Position Summary:
The Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Monmouth University seeks an outstanding senior scholar for the Endowed Rechnitz Family / Urban Coast Institute Chair in Marine and Environmental Law and Policy. The Chair will have an expertise in environment, coastal and marine policy. This position will have a strong affiliation/collaboration with the Urban Coast Institute. This position will offer courses geared towards the overall environment as well as environmental law and policy. The successful applicant will be hired at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Department of Political Science and Sociology with the possibility of a joint appointment in another appropriate department at the university, as well as associated with the Urban Coast Institute (UCI).

The UCI serves Monmouth University and the public as a forum for research, education and collaboration in the development and implementation of natural and social science-based policies and programs that support stewardship of healthy, productive and resilient ocean and coastal ecosystems and communities. Teaching and research are mutually supportive activities at Monmouth University. To assist the Endowed Chair, the University will provide funds for support of research, normally to a maximum of $10,000 per year subject to roll-over. The incumbent shall be eligible for a tenured appointment in their home department at Monmouth University.

Endowed chair candidates are expected to have an established record of outstanding intellectual achievement in research and education, as measured by scholarly activity, an international professional reputation, and a demonstrated ability for leadership. The endowed chair will be expected to build and/or enhance the reputation of the institution, school, and department. The term of the endowed chair shall be for three (3) years, renewable upon satisfactory completion of all duties.

•Terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD, EdD) in a discipline relevant to the position.
• A record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with a tenured appointment at the university
• Expertise in marine, ocean, and environmental law and policy.
• Experience engaging interdisciplinary research and collaboration, and building networks and constituents in address issues related to marine, ocean, and environmental challenges related to law and policy
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills
• Demonstrated leadership and impact, on an ongoing basis and in the broadest sense possible, throughout her/his career



Preferred Qualifications:
•Knowledge of and experience with relevant United Nations instruments and processes and international marine and environmental law and policy
• Experience in developing external relations and funding to build and bridge collaborations within programs
• Experience with program and project administration and management
• A record of success in formulating funding proposals, securing grants and external funding to support for research and programs, and managing grant-funded research
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity
• Experience with curricular and academic program development
