About the Opportunity

Northeastern University is the global leader in experiential learning and cooperative education. The D'Amore-McKim School of Business is seeking a Co-op Coordinator to work with our undergraduate student population and employer partners. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. You will join a diverse, inclusive, and supportive team of 30+ highly motivated, collaborative faculty and staff who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to business students.

Responsibilities

Education of Students
The Co-op Coordinator educates and guides students through their career development. They educate, advise, and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today's global business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom.

The Co-op Coordinator teaches a career education course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and as well as leadership skills and self-awareness and emotional intelligence development.

The Co-op Coordinator also maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.

The Co-op Coordinator also engages in service to the Cooperative Education department, D'Amore- McKim School of Business, and to Northeastern University including presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students; participation on committees and task forces; and serving as an advisor to student organizations.

Integrated Learning
Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom learning. The Co-op Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty, leadership, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co- op and academic experiences. The Co-op Coordinator shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.

Employer Program Development
The Co-op Coordinator develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs across the US and globally. They engage with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni. They engage in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, active participation in relevant professional organizations, and a deep understanding of relevant academic curriculum. High- level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and experience in building and maintaining client relationships is essential.
  • A master's degree in a business-related field or college student development, counseling, education, psychology is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years of professional work experience;
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace;
  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, and strong organizational skills;
  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experientiallearning and its impact on an individual's career development.
