Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position of Instructor in the Certified Nursing Assistant program within the Health Sciences & Homeland Security division. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2023.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will serve as instructor in the Certified Nursing Assistant program. As instructor, the individual will be responsible for the continued development, implementation and overall effectiveness of the educational courses/curriculum through collaboration with Nursing faculty and evaluation of student performance.  Courses will include nursing lecture, clinical and lab with a focus on teaching the updated and interactive nursing curriculum. As an instructor, the individual will teach nursing courses in both the traditional and computerized environment. The individual will also assess student performance and collaborate with Nursing faculty and leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the programs. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois with a minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing practice, with a valid practice license. Clinical practice must be in a nursing home or hand-on care of elderly such as a swing bed at a hospital.
  2. Train the Trainer certificate or six hours of Alzheimer’s continuing education must be completed prior to or immediately upon acceptance of position.
  3. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
  4. Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.) preferred.
  5. Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by college and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment.
  6. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
  7. A valid driver’s license is required.

 

 

SALARYThis is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule.  For example, the minimum 2022-2023 starting salary at Step 1 on the below Master’s Degree column is $48,491.  Voluntary overload teaching assignments and mandatory summer program coordination may increase the annual compensation by up to 40%.  The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.

 

WORK LOCATION:  Certified Nursing Assistant instructional responsibilities at the Granite City/ESL/Belleville/Red Bud campuses with district-wide clinical responsibilities. Driving may be required to reach off-campus sites, visit clinical facilities throughout the region and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois and the St. Louis region.
