Position Summary:

The Department of Art’s BFA program seeks qualified candidates to teach a variety of undergraduate courses including foundation courses in graphic design, two-dimensional design and related courses potentially including history of graphic design. Expertise in print design, web and mobile design, motion graphics, UX/UI design, branding, HTML, and typography preferred. The Department offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) major in art with emphases in graphic design and visual arts. This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Typical teaching load is a 4/4 load (first-year faculty teach 9 credits 3/3 load) in face-to-face, lecture-capture and/or web platforms
  • Advising undergraduate students as well as service-related duties at the department, college, and university levels, and other duties as assigned by chair.
  • Serve on department, college and/or university committees
  • Commitment to advancing the goals and mission of the department, including departmental assessment, strategic plans, curriculum development, recruitment and retention. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • An earned MFA in Graphic Design or terminal degree in related field.
  • A thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software including After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. 

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience in traditional design principles, typography, motion graphics, and interactive/web design.
  • Experience of 3+ years working with college students and student organizations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse learning and working environment.
  • Experience using technology to support teaching.
  • Demonstrated leadership and enthusiasm for leading departmental student organizations
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining relationships for student internships.

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
