Job Description:

The Associate Provost for Educational Effectiveness and Accreditation (APEEA) reports to the Provost and is a critical member of the Provost's senior leadership team. The successful candidate is a strategic, data focused, and critical thinker who thrives in managing a wide and varied scope of responsibilities and overseeing direct reports as well as cooperating with a variety of campus partners in and outside of Academic Affairs. The APEEA provides strategic leadership regarding the analysis, utilization, and reporting of student academic data, faculty workload data, and other institutional data to support decision making, policy formation and the effective allocation of resources. Working with the Provost's senior leadership team, academic department chairs and other stakeholders, the APEEA is responsible for ensuring that the College offers the curriculum and the appropriate resources for students to complete their degrees and their selected academic programs in four years of coursework at the College. Supported by a Systems and Data Lead, the APEEA will oversee the modeling of future demand for courses and seats, extracting key insights to inform planning within Academic Affairs. The APEEA oversees the visiting faculty budget and is responsible for working with the Deans of the Faculty to authorize part-time and full-time visiting faculty to meet student course demand.

The APEEA also provides leadership in communicating policy and procedures, managing staff and operations, and maintaining efficient, effective services within the Office of Assessment and Research (OAR) and the Office of the Registrar. Working with these offices and other data stewards at the college, the APEEA will envision ways to improve our academic data systems and develop new processes for responding more efficiently and effectively to requests for student and faculty data.

The APEEA serves as the college's principal liaison to the New England Commission of Higher Education and ensures that accreditation requirements are incorporated into the college's planning and evaluation processes. The APEEA will coordinate the management of the college's accreditation status, working closely with the college's executive leadership and OAR.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Provides leadership in the development and management of appropriate academic data systems to support institutional operations and planning.
  • Manages the visiting faculty budget and is responsible for working with the Deans of the Faculty to authorize part-time and full-time visiting faculty to meet student course demand.
  • Supervises the Systems and Data Lead and the Registrar and provides strategic direction to support the systems and data needs in Academic Affairs including:
    • The acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of systems in Academic Affairs related to student academic records, faculty records, electronic course evaluations, and curriculum management.
    • The creation and maintenance of Tableau dashboards related to enrollment, curriculum management, and other data driven decision making processes in the Provost's Office
    • The creation of reports using BI Publisher or other appropriate reporting tools to provide faculty and student records data to appropriate departments, offices and external agencies.
  • Responsible for organizing and supervising accreditation efforts of the College and serves as the primary liaison to the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
  • Responsible for participating in a College-wide data governance group to set data strategy; to ensure data integrity and consistency across systems; and to establish and maintain College policies regarding data access, use, security, and dissemination.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Office of Assessment and Research and providing advocacy and support for College-wide assessment efforts.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master degree from an accredited institution, doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in higher education or comparable experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing strategic planning processes to advance institutional mission of inclusive academic excellence.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience managing data systems.
  • Excellent writing, communication and visualization skills
  • Strong background in the effective use of technology to improve systems and delivery of services.
  • Ability to synthesize diverse data points into a coherent set of actionable findings and recommendations.
  • Experience managing director level direct reports.
  • Experience implementing complex academic policies in collaboration with a variety of campus constituencies.
  • Experience with Tableau, SQL, and BI Publisher or comparable programs/programming languages is desirable.
