Reporting to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs and working collaboratively with CSUSB's other Vice Presidents, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for the PDC serves as the campus' administrator in charge and is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the branch location. This includes managing budgets, supervising staff, coordinating academic and administrative services, and serving as a liaison between the PDC and the San Bernardino campus. The AVP is also responsible for supervising the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and supporting programs and services that contribute to students' development, engagement, and well-being through a robust student life experience. In addition to these responsibilities, the AVP will lead the development and implementation of campus policies and procedures, and cultivate and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and regional educational partners to support transformational educational opportunities for students. The AVP is also accountable for strategic planning and long-term vision for the PDC, as well as ensuring that its strategic priorities are aligned with the goals and mission of the university.

Major duties and responsibilities
  • Provide strong and clear leadership and advocacy for the PDC's staff, faculty and students.
  • Maintain excellent communication skills, self and social awareness, and have a keep ability to manage relationships with students, staff and faculty.
  • Maintain a collaborative campus work environment and foster positive employee relations.
  • Possess and intricate knowledge of academic programming and the ability to quickly comprehend PDC operations within CSUSB's larger organizational structure.
  • Collaboratively lead long and short-term strategy developments for the PDC, actively engage diverse initiatives, and contribute to key university events.
  • Oversee the general operations of the PDC related to budget development and compliance with university policies.
  • Direct the general operations of the PDC related to enrollment management and student success initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Student Affairs leaders to promote a campus environment where students feel a sense of inclusion and belonging.
  • Conduct regular meetings with PDC faculty and staff to address common regional issues, share information, and gather input.
  • Represent the PDC at various campus, division, and university committees.
  • Utilize the university's expertise to serve the educational and economic development needs of the communities served by the PDC; encourage development and collaboration of entrepreneurial academic offerings.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
  • The ideal candidate should possess a terminal degree and will have a deep commitment to supporting the educational needs of the Coachella Valley.
  • The AVP will have proven experience in promoting diverse and inclusive environments and improving access to higher education for all.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience with a collective bargaining environment
  • Experience with Minority or Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs)
  • A deep commitment to shared governance
  • Successful experience with personnel and budgetary management
  • Effective community involvement and leadership
  • Fundraising and development experience
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices and the changing landscape of higher education
  • A record of commitment to diversity (i.e. recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, students, and staff infusion of diversity into the curriculum promoting a work environment that is inclusive and collegial for all faculty, staff, and students).
  • Experience with compliance, report generation and strategic planning.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Experience providing supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to motivate others into action with deans, department chairs, and faculty.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per month

Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per month

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Exempt/At will

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
