Job Description

This position will provide leadership for the Men of Color Academy (MoCA), Success Coaches, mentors, and the development and implementation of programming, workshops, and training for program participants. Oversee the development and implementation of unique and engaging cohort-based programs across broad academic areas that are responsive to regional workforce needs to provide holistic support and development to program participants. This position is responsible for implementing best practices in the areas of mentoring and student development and partnering with established programs to meet student needs.

Through a holistic assessment process, support services will be personalized to meet students’ individual needs. MoCA aims to provide proactive support and engagement in the areas of student development, career/transfer exploration, professional/leadership development, and networking opportunities. Through holistic and culturally relevant programming, cross-campus and interdepartmental support networks, and innovative services, we strive to close the gaps of retention and graduation rates among men of color.

The Director will report to Chief of Staff and Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics.
Key Responsibilities and Duties, include, but are not limited to:
  • Design and implement program components (assessment, career development, mentoring, leadership program) in collaboration with internal partners (Roo Advising, Career Services, Student Affairs, Faculty, Community Professionals, Residential Life).
  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and coordinating programs and services within Men of Color Academy (MoCA).
  • Coordinate programming for students who self-identify as men of color, specifically Black and Latino/x men that promote a sense of belonging and bonding as well as develop a strong sense of advocacy around student persistence, retention and graduation.
  • Develop a strategic plan and assessment instrument for monitoring and tracking program components that evaluate various success metrics.
  • Represent the MoCA on campus and in the community, developing cohorts that include first time college students and transfer students.
  • Establish a plan for clear communication of program requirements and expectations, and scholarship details to students.
  • Develop and implement an application, review, and selection process for program applicants. Determine and implement marketing needs for the program.
  • Capitalize and integrate existing support services for student success (financial wellness, mental health and wellness, etc.) into the program.
  • Work closely with campus partners, as well as Alumni, university and community partners to design co-curricular programming in the areas of academics, mentoring, leadership development, internship and career exploration, undergraduate research, gender and racial identity development, and others.
  • Establish relationships with campus departments, faculty and students who support the work of MoCA.
  • Hire, train and supervise Success Coaches.
  • Develop, coordinate and design content for web page and social media outlets.
  • Support student crises, counsel and advise students on concerns related to interpersonal issues, academic concerns, career interests, and identity development. Refer students to appropriate services for additional guidance, support, or intervention.
  • Benchmark best practices for Male Success Initiatives nationally.
  • Other projects, initiatives and duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Salary

$53,600 - $74,000 commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity
