Job Description Summary
The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research Center is seeking three full-time clinical research coordinators who will be responsible for supporting multiple mixed-methods projects with an emphasis on reducing health inequities and focus on socioeconomically disadvantaged and/or medically underserved groups. These projects include: (1) a study aimed at understanding how patients with advanced lung disease and their families form expectations for their future health; and (2) a community-engaged study to better understand the experiences and support needs of youth who provide informal caregiving to older, frail, ill, or disabled family members. The CRC will join a diverse, multidisciplinary team working to improve the lives of people and families coping with serious illness and improve health equity across multiple domains. Joanna Hart, MD, MSHP provides faculty leadership of this team.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the CRC's primary responsibilities will include conducting screening, recruiting, and consenting participants, including patients with serious illnesses; collecting data from the electronic health record; administering surveys; conducting interviews with patients and other relevant stakeholders; qualitative data analysis, including collaborative coding and analysis of interviews and recorded clinic visits; monitoring subject payments; collaborating with community partners; and attending team meetings and mutually supporting team members. The CRC may also be responsible for various day-to-day study operations including maintaining study databases, compliance with all IRB and regulatory documentation, and assisting with the preparation of materials to disseminate study results as needed.

Experienced candidates (CRC-C) will prepare and manage study databases, track and maintain adequate study progress, and have the opportunity to work closely with and provide supervision of students and junior research coordinators based on experience and interest. The CRC should be able to work closely with external partners, such as other health systems and community organizations.

  • Conduct interviews and record clinical office visits with patients and family members
  • Perform qualitative data analysis on office visit and interview transcripts
  • Maintain study databases and data tracking systems using REDCap
  • Attend research team meetings
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and IRB documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


CRC B:
  • Lead all screening, recruitment, and consent protocols for research studies

  • Assist PI and project manger with other programmatic activities, including but not limited to grant proposal submissions, manuscript development, and other dissemination activities to promote the work of Dr. Hart's research lab

Qualifications

CRC A: A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1-2 years clinical trial/clinical research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with qualitative research methods and working with institutional review boards and human research subject protection regulations is preferred.

CRC B: A Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of clinical trial/clinical research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred. Experience with qualitative research methods and working with institutional review boards and human research subject protection regulations is required. Expertise in REDCap or database management strongly preferred.

CRC C: A Bachelor's degree and 4-5 years of clinical/clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and experienced required. Master's degree preferred. Experience with clinical research execution and institutional review boards and human research subject protection regulations is required. Expertise in REDCap or database management strongly preferred. Qualitative research experience preferred.

Strong computer skills are essential. Candidate must be comfortable and willing to learn to use REDCap and qualitative research methods. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills including when working closely with diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals; highly organized; attentive to detail; ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to achieve collective goals; and flexibility to shift focus between multiple projects as needed. Prior qualitative research work is preferred. Demonstrated abilities to work with people experience distress and community organizations is preferred.
