Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for one part-time (20 hours/week) painter. Previous painting experience preferred, but early career painters are encouraged to apply. Part-time employees are eligible for certain benefits on a pro-rated basis.
The painters maintain and perform preventive maintenance painting on buildings’ interiors and exteriors. They perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of finishes of exterior surfaces, interior walls, ceilings, and floor surfaces. The painters erect scaffolding and set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level, prepare parking areas and streets for striping, and operate related machinery. They also clean and inspect gutters and roof drains and unclog them as necessary, and restore/refinish and move furniture as needed. On-the-job training is provided.
Successful applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, excellent communication skills, customer-service focus, and a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations. Candidates must have abilities to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods of time; full range of body motion; ability to operate hand tools and motorized equipment requiring manual dexterity; and ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Applicants must also have abilities, without assistance, to work from ladders, scaffoldings, and elevated platforms up to 135 feet high, and move and operate personnel lifts up to 80 feet high. Must also be self-starters and team players and be willing and able to work indoors and outdoors in varying environments.
