Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Job Description Summary
Ideal for recent Chapman alumni looking to expand their research skills. Incumbent will be responsible for setting up and maintaining a recirculating seawater system with invertebrate animals, organizing and stocking supplies, and completing research on primary project(s). Incumbent will be lightly supervised and must be able to work independently. Incumbent will also work to organize undergraduate researchers on their primary research project(s). Research work will include particle image velocimetry, operation of high-speed cameras and other photography, and optical mapping using voltage-sensitive dyes.

Responsibilities
- Conducts scientific research.
- Records data and provides a basic analysis of results, including reports to PI on conclusions based upon theoretical and experimental knowledge.
- Maintains acceptable conditions for animals in recirculating seawater system including regular maintenance such as quality testing and water changes.
- Attends and participates in group and project meetings.
- Helps maintain proper laboratory safety procedures, updates safety protocols, logbooks, including radiation and bio waste safety.
- Helps supervise undergraduate students; trains new students; models and ensures proper safety protocols.
- Maintains laboratory by cleaning and washing.
- Keeps laboratory supplies ready by inventory stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- A Bachelor’s degree in biology or related science with laboratory research experience including animal behavior ethograms.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory research (safety, use of pH meter)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, R, and ImageJ
- Communication and interpersonal skills to interact and work collaboratively with other researchers
- Familiarity with imaging and photography
- Willingness to drive to off-site locations for research
- Writing skills to summarize research findings and integrate into scientific manuscripts
- Willingness to acquire new skills Willing to respond to emergencies regarding animal care
