The Opportunity:

The Office of Institutional Research is growing and recruiting for an Assistant Director of Student Success Research and Analytics . Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research, this position supports the retention and academic progress of students by providing data that informs policy, processes, and curricular and student support initiatives that impact retention and student success.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Use data to identify opportunities for increasing student engagement, retention, and completion, with a focus on academics, grades, financial aid, advising, intervention, and student life.
  • Design and conduct retention-related studies, to include the data collection, vetting, analysis, interpretation, and communication of results. Conduct meta-analyses utilizing data from multiple sources such as student information systems, third party tools, dashboards, and surveys.
  • Produce statistical analyses and visualizations designed to identify benchmarks and track trends in terms of academic progress and student success.
  • Liaise with faculty, staff, and administration of all levels and across multiple campuses to infuse data in the development, administration, and tracking of retention/student success related initiatives.
  • Accommodate and align (where appropriate) the generation of standard reports and metrics per external requirements and the internal need for retention-related data information and access.
  • Represent the IR Office in retention efforts. Serve on or support the university’s Retention Committees and related Strategic Initiative Teams (SIT).
  • Be active in retention/student success professional organizations and consortia and engage in peer comparison and best practices research.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a data-intensive field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of higher education work experience.
  • Strong data skills particularly in analyzing, visualizing and reporting on raw data in a clear, concise fashion. Experience in Power BI or Tableau preferred.
  • Experience with SPSS, R, SAS, or other similar data packages. An understanding of advanced statistical techniques such as predictive and multivariate analyses.
  • Ability to translate complex statistical data analyses in a clear manner for a wide variety of audiences, with an eye for identifying benchmarks, needs, and recommending strategies based on these analyses.
  • Experience in data governance, definitions and standards, and analytics in order to work with Information Technology and other stakeholders in the development and maintenance of data sources and governance in the area of student success and retention.
  • A strong understanding of Student Success and Retention theory and best practices in supporting and assessing student success with a particular concentration/focus on academics.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills. This individual will be working with staff, faculty and administration at all levels.
  • Ability to handle numerous projects at once.
