Job Description
The College of Engineering Academic Affairs Office is seeking a candidate to serve as an Assistant Director of Advising. Ideal candidates will be caring, organized, communicative, and accessible with a desire to help students in their academic journey, from enrollment to graduation. The position reports to the Director of Advising and will be a key member of the Academic Affairs Office to assist in the development and implementation of strategic advising initiatives, and overall academic affairs operations for more than 10,000 undergraduate engineering students. The position will provide academic advising support related to academic eligibility, early academic referral system reports, academic relief, etc. through individual meetings, email, video conferencing, and phone conversations with undergraduate engineering students. Additionally, the position will coordinate the scholarship process for upper-class undergraduate students and new transfer students, as well as the outstanding senior selection process.
Required Qualifications
-Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field from an accredited university.
-Prior related work experience in a higher education student-focused setting.
-Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
-Detail-oriented and able to deliver high quality, accurate work.
-Strong computer skills in electronic file management, word processing, database management, and spreadsheets
-Excellent communication and presentation skills.
-Prior experience working effectively with a diverse population, with sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and prospective students and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
-Broad knowledge of university policies and procedures, particularly related to registration, class scheduling, degree and graduation requirements.
-Academic advising, career advising, or counseling experience in a university setting.
-Knowledge of student development theory, academic advising pillars, competencies, and standards
