Position Description
The intent of the post-graduate residency position is to provide an entry-level clinical professional with the type of supervised experience necessary for licensure and practice as a psychologist or professional counselor. The Advanced Mental Health Resident (AMHR) position is available for individuals who have completed their Masters degree in Professional Counseling or doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. The residency experience is a one-year, 10 month, 30-35 hours/week intensive postgraduate experience and may include the provision of the following services:
· Short-term individual and crisis counseling
· Consultation services and outreach programming
· Initial assessments and clinician emergency coverage
· The resident will also participate in organizational and clinical staff meetings and other university-wide meetings as appropriate. The residency position is a 30-35 hours per week, 1500-hour position with an hourly rate of $41.67 that begins in August and concludes in May. To avoid ethical issues that may occur when the Counseling Center staff relate to an individual in a role other than as a client, all former Counseling Center clients will be excluded from training and employment opportunities at the Counseling Center.
Professional Instruction:
· Candidate will receive 1-2 scheduled hours of individual supervision by a licensed psychologist or professional counselor weekly and are encouraged to consult at other times as needed. As part of supervision, residents / post-docs are expected to participate in exploration of their identities in order to better understand themselves as both people and professionals. Discussion of the intersection between clients’ identities and their clinical presentation takes place in supervision, as well as throughout their work in the counseling office.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
· Completed all requirements for their master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from a CACREP-accredited graduate program prior to the start of residency
· Completed doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology
· Well-developed skills in providing brief therapy for a college student population
