Description:
The Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment at Pratt Institute is currently seeking part-time faculty to teach in the City and Regional Planning Program for the Fall 2022 semester.

The City and Regional Planning program, an accredited graduate-level program within the Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment (GCPE) offers qualified students a rigorous, practice-based education that prepares them to work in diverse areas of the planning field. Coursework prioritizes community engagement, sustainability, radical critical thinking, and racial and social justice. Classes meet in the evenings to allow students time for jobs and internships. Most part-time faculty are practitioners.

We are seeking appointments for the following courses:

PLAN-702B Advanced GIS - (3 Credits) Tuesdays, 8:00pm-10:50 pm, in-person. Tuesday, August 30-December 13

The course provides advanced instruction in geographic information systems (GIS) for urban planning applications. Skills covered include database management for GIS, interactive mapping technologies, use of maps to track social and environmental data over space and time, geocoding, advanced cartography, open source computer mapping developments, and 3D applications of GIS.

Students develop the ability to analyze data spatially and use maps to represent complex social, geological and environmental phenomena.

PLAN-891 Directed Research - (2 Credits) Tuesdays, 5:00 pm-7:50 pm, primarily in-person, August 30-December 13

The demonstration of an approved scope of work showing the analytical capacities and creative skills expected of a professional planner is the capstone of the program. The demonstration can involve original research, a work-related project or an extension of course-related work. An advisory committee of faculty members judge the demonstration.

PLAN-892 Demonstration of Professional Competence - (3 Credits) Tuesdays, 5:00 pm-7:50 pm, primarily remote, August 30-December 13

The demonstration of an approved scope of work showing the analytical capacities and creative skills expected of a professional planner is the capstone of the program. The demonstration can involve original research, a work-related project or an extension of course-related work. An advisory committee of faculty members judge the demonstration.

PLAN-893 Professional Competence in Progress - (0 Credits) Tuesdays, 5:00 pm-7:50 pm, primarily remote, August 30-December 13

If the Demonstration of Professional Competence is not completed in the initial semesters, students can continue working in PLAN-700 for no more than five semesters.

PLAN 891, 892, and 893 are co-taught by a team of part-time and full-time faculty.

Pay Rate: $2,809 - $3,411 per contact hour


Qualifications:
Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a Masters degree in urban planning or a related field, and demonstrated professional skill and expertise in the content area of the course. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not strictly required.
