Summary
This position will support data collection and analysis for the Division of Bariatric & Gastrointestinal Surgery and potentially several clinical divisions within the Department of Surgery. This will include accumulating demographic, biological, and medical information concerning a series of patients. Depending on the category of patient disease, expansion of the database for certain patients will be required with a view toward statistical analysis. The disease categories under study will be examined for correlations with etiology, diagnostic criteria, treatment modalities, and outcomes. Frequency distributions, analyses of variants, correlation analysis, and multi-variant analyses are examples of the statistical treatments required. There will be a need to interact with the surgical faculty involved and to understand, in general terms, the disease processes which will be under investigation. The data collected and analyzed as part of this role will be used for research, clinical outcomes, accreditation, and further investigation. This position will also be asked to support regulatory activities with regards to clinical research trials within the department to include supporting IRB submissions and other regulatory submissions.
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum one (1) year experience working in a clinical department in hospital, clinic, clinical research or similar
- Previous experience using computers and software applications to include electronic medical records, the internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office, statistics, and graphics
- Very strong analytical skills with ability to identify trends and patterns in complex data sets
- Experience collaborating with internal and cross-functional teams
- Topnotch analytic skills including data mining, evaluation, analysis and visualization
- Database and/or registry management experience
- Demonstrated experience fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Clinical chart review and data abstraction experience
- Experience independently managing and facilitating improvement projects and interdisciplinary teams, to include, staff, executives, and physicians in a healthcare environment.
- Experience with performance improvement and process improvement tools and methods, including proven track record of data-driven clinical improvement successes.
