East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Student Success Coach! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.


As the Student Success Coach, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable engaging with students through varied and meaningful communication methods. You will be an active member of the College of Business Management team and will work closely with the Dean to assess and analyze data related to student success and help to implement support interventions. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your experience and knowledge of higher education student support programs while offering insight on compatible support services to assist individual student goals. To be successful in this role, you must be able to make personalized connections in the campus community, use effective judgment, and have a strong want/need to help others.

This is a temporary grant-funded position. Your normal hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Student Success Coach.  When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Connect students to resources and guide them to successful completion of a degree program.
  • Support students through encouragement, engagement, motivation and inspiration.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of student success initiatives.
  • Administer varied tools and assessments of first-year students.
  • Define and identify “at-risk” freshmen and establish a data baseline and tracking mechanism.
  • Monitor and review student assessment responses and progress indicators (self-assessments, Warrior Fish flags, midterm grades, etc.) and respond personally to the student to construct an individual support plan.
  • Analyze assessment data, maintain databases, and construct reports on student interventions, success impact, and retention continuous improvement measures.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources in an effort to meet the personalized needs of identified students.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, Financial Aid Office, Office of Residence Life, Office of Admissions and other campus partners in the development of retention efforts.
  • Document student contact and maintain student records via the university’s computerized information system.
  • Coordinate social media content to maintain communication of supports and announcements with all first-year students.
  • Assist the Chair of the Men of Color Alliance (MOCA) and Women of Color Initiative (WOCI) programs as needed.
  • Serve on university-wide committees, task forces, and academic success initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in campus life, education, counseling, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a field directly related to the duties and responsibilities associated with higher education degree counseling
  • 2+ years of experience with higher education student support programs (e.g. mentoring programs)
  • Professional work experience with assessment construction, data collection techniques, and analysis of said data
  • Excellent oral, written, and technological skills (including Word, Excel, Teams, data collection reports, and social media)
  • Strong collaborative skills within a higher education environment, including faculty, staff, and administration
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of higher education, mentoring, tutoring, or counseling, including an understanding of both traditional and non-traditional higher education students. Diligence and persistence in connecting with at-risk students
  • Ability to positively and enthusiastically assist students, promoting approachability, openness to student conversations, and empathy.
