Division Overview

The mission of the ACS Education is to serve learners and educators by building communities and supporting innovative, relevant, and effective chemistry education and professional development. The strategic objectives of the ACS Education Division reflect the responsiveness of the Division in fulfilling the vision, mission, and values of ACS and meeting the needs of the changing chemistry enterprise.

 

Position Summary

The incumbent reports to the Sr. Director, ACS Education and is responsible for strategic and operational oversight of the Fostering the Skilled Technical Workforce project. This includes developing strategy and project roadmaps, leading and implementing project activities, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to promote, evaluate, and advance Fostering the Skilled Technical Workforce goals and activities.

 

Work Design: Works under general managerial direction on goals and objectives that have a significant impact on the organization. Works with unit objectives and expert knowledge with guidance. Develops systemic solutions for highly complex problems. Uses analytical, interpretive, evaluative and/or constructive thinking to reach solutions.

 

Position Accountabilities

  • Provides strategic and operational oversight for the Fostering the Skilled Technical Workforce project.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders (i.e., Education, Marketing, Communications, and Web Strategy) and external stakeholders (i.e., ACS governance groups, schools, government agencies, industry, etc.…) to integrate, advance, and promote the Fostering the Skilled Technical Workforce project and its goals.
  • Develops and disseminate project resources to high school and two-year college educators and their students.
  •  Creates a framework for and facilitates the formation of partnerships with and between high school educators, two-year college educators and industry that promote and advance skilled technical professional careers within the chemical enterprise.
  •  Monitors and reports progress against Fostering the Skilled Technical Workforce project goals and milestones.
  •  Assists with complementary initiatives and projects that promote and advance skilled technical professional careers within the chemical enterprise.

 

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

The incumbent will have a history of demonstrated success bringing projects to fruition while providing creative and resourceful solutions to complex challenges. Additional requirements include:

  • College degree in chemistry or STEM; may have an advanced degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of related experience. Experience in teaching (high school or community college) preferred, experience in the chemical industry is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated program and project management experience required.
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills for interacting with stakeholders.
  • Strategic and creative thinking including experience with new program development.
  • Organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail are highly desirable.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with focus on collaboration and consensus building between teams.

 

 

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
