Job Details

Wofford College invites applications for a visiting assistant professor in the Department of History for the 2023-24 academic year, renewable for 2024-25 pending performance review. At Wofford, faculty serve as teacher-scholars dedicated to the education and mentorship of undergraduates in a liberal arts tradition. Wofford embraces a broad definition of scholarship that includes discipline-specific, pedagogical and interdisciplinary research.

REQUIREMENTS

The position requires the candidate hold a Ph.D. in early European history by the time of the appointment on Aug. 15, 2023. We seek candidates who have a passion for teaching undergraduates. In the fall of 2023, the visiting assistant professor of history will teach two sections of HIST 101 (Western Civilization from the Renaissance to 1815), and two sections of HIST 102 (Western Civilization Since 1815). There is typically a maximum of 24 students enrolled in each 100-level History course. In the spring 2024 semester, the visiting assistant professor of history will teach a total of three sections of HIST 101 or HIST 102 and one upper division class from the department’s existing early modern Europe classes.
