Carnegie Mellon University is embarking on The Future of Financial Planning (FFP) project, a multi-phase budget and financial planning process and system implementation project which will improve planning, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities at the university. This project is jointly sponsored by the Finance and Computing Service Divisions within the University.

The Computing Services central IT department provides services that have a strategic impact on university goals. This role will work with the Director of Business Applications Development and Support and is responsible for handling the day-to-day activities of critical finance transformation projects.

Project Management responsibilities include partnerships with internal partners and external resources focusing on time and resource management, financial planning, scope management, issue and risk management, meeting coordination, and project execution. A successful candidate will plan, direct, and cultivate collaboration and progress on the overall project. They will play a significant role in nurturing partner relationships, including general, ongoing communications, negotiation of scope and schedule changes, key risks, issue resolution, and ongoing progress reporting to a variety of audiences.

Business Analyst responsibilities include serving as a liaison between functional users and technical staff in the development and modification of financial business processes and systems. They will lead in the definition of user business requirements, assuring requirements are appropriately addressed in application implementation, and redefining business processes. Additional responsibilities include crafting and implementing data maps and test plans, performing hands-on functional testing, and leading user acceptance testing. This position will also provide ongoing user support, including troubleshooting and resolution of more complex financial system issues post-implementation.

Your core responsibilities include:
  • Serves as project manager for finance IT projects from conception through implementation.
  • Serve as a key business partner coordinator between the Finance Division, Computing Services, and University partners.
  • Lead others to articulate business and process requirements
  • Provide valuable decision support
  • Identify and document project risks and mitigations.
  • Lead testing
You should demonstrate:
  • Project Management and Business Analyst experience
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written skills; ability to tailor communication to different audiences, such as management, partners, users, SMEs, developers, and others
  • Strong process analysis and documentation skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to quickly develop deep understanding of financial systems and chart of accounts structure.
  • Demonstrable skills in data organization and analysis, problem-solving, systems documentation
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and priorities; deadline driven.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science/Programming or Statistics. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5-8 years of project management and financial systems experience. Project Management Certification preferred
  • Candidates from both inside and outside higher education will be considered
  • Knowledge of Oracle systems with experience in a finance technology implementation project is preferred
