Job Title:Faculty, Writing and LiteratureDepartment:Liberal StudiesCollege/Division:College Of Professional AdvancementJob Details:Mercer University's College of Professional Advancement invites applications for a Faculty of Writing and Literature, a tenure-track, full-time renewable position beginning August 1, 2023. The position, in the College's department of Liberal Studies will be based at Mercer's Macon campus and includes teaching responsibilities (seven course teaching load) at the University's Regional Academic Centers and the Macon and Atlanta campuses.

The successful candidate will have the ability to teach core courses in writing/composition and literature including the critical reading and writing sequence LBST 175 Academic Writing I: Education and Experience, and LBST 180 Academic Writing II: Vocation and Values. In addition, they will teach undergraduate literature courses and courses that support the interdisciplinary core courses of the B.A. in liberal studies degree, as well as courses in the College's general education program. Desirable areas of interdisciplinary focus include but are not limited to women's and gender studies, global studies, and Africana studies.

Additional responsibilities include advising students, participating in faculty committees, attending faculty meetings, engaging in scholarly activity, maintaining office hours, and working collaboratively with colleagues within the department, the College, and across the academic units of the University. The basic appointment is for the traditional nine-month academic year, with the possibility of additional teaching in summer.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in a related area from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. The successful candidate must also have a record of innovative teaching and interdisciplinary scholarship. A demonstrated potential for exemplary teaching of adult learners at the undergraduate level and a demonstrated research agenda in the candidate's area(s) of study are required along with experience teaching undergraduate writing/composition and literature courses and a willingness to participate in the development of student writers in each of our Regional Academic Centers which supports the College's goal of distinguishing Mercer's adult learners for excellence in writing. In addition, experience teaching in both a traditional classroom setting, blended classroom, and online is required.

The Department of Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary department offering a B.A. in Liberal Studies, a B.A. in Communication, and general education courses in the evenings, and online in Mercer's College of Professional Advancement. The College's Department of Liberal Studies is recognized for incorporating a number of high impact teaching and learning practices that support undergraduate research and service-learning, including its Coastal Georgia Research Initiative, the use of ePortfolios, and a general education certificate in global learning and engagement that includes a study abroad experience.

Selection of the final candidate is contingent on a successful background check.
