Job Summary
Assists with all major career exploration, assessments, and career advising through the Weigand Center for Professional Excellence ( WCPE ) including classroom presentations, resume review and approval, peer resume review team support, and career education programming. Also responsible for supporting the WCPE mentoring program.

Ability to work some flexible hours as needed for evening and weekend events. Physical activities include repetitive motion and exerting up to 10 pounds of force in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Essential Functions
- Assists students interested in exploring career options both inside and outside of their major fields of study, and guides them toward resources, including PathwayU, O*NET, and more.
- Provides and facilitates online and other assessments, such as Meyers Briggs, RIASEC, DiSC, and others to guide students toward a deeper understanding of their interests and strengths and to help them better understand themselves and facilitate their career planning journey.
- Reviews and approves resumes of students and alumni in Handshake.
- Recruits and trains the student career-peer team on resume review process and approval.
- Plans, organizes, and facilitates the First Leap program at the end of the first academic year for students, including review and assessment. This program is a 4-day experience for approximately 15-20 students consisting of 2 days of professional development and reflection, and 2 days of informational interviews and job shadowing.
- Researches and updates career preparation resources for resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing, and more to ensure best practices.
- Teaches career exploration and preparation classes as needed.
- Manages the evaluation and assessment process for short-term and long-term mentoring experiences, including informational interviews, creation and maintenance of survey instruments, and data compilation and analysis, and applies results to continue to improve and grow the programs.
- Provides and manages logistical support for the mentoring program, including communication with professionals to provide career exploration opportunities, informational interviews, and mentoring opportunities for our students.
- Supports undergraduate, adult, and graduate students, and alumni with career advising and transition advising.
- Serves as a liaison between the WCPE and the Career Transitions Center of Chicago ( CTC ) to organize, market, and promote three on-campus events each academic year utilizing social media and Handshake platforms.
- Serves as a liaison between groups such as Veterans and Alumni.
- Assists with all other WCPE career related events on and off campus when needed.
- Manages and approves content for the WCPE’s career education and mentoring web pages.
- Coordinates and facilitates classroom workshops and presentations on resume writing, networking, interviewing, and business etiquette for faculty, student organizations, and other groups.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attends developmental programs as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Two or more years of related work experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member with faculty, administrators, students and outside constituents at all levels.
- Must be flexible and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be dedicated to maintaining and improving the image of the University and the WCPE .
- Master’s degree.
- Certifications to facilitate and interpret assessments such as MBTI, Strong, DiSC, RIASEC .
- Understanding of higher education, particularly in a private liberal arts college or university.
