The School of Education is comprised of five academic departments including Educational Leadership, Teacher Education, Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Counseling. The Department of Teacher Education offers an AA in Early Childhood Multicultural Education, and BA concentrations in the areas of Early Childhood Multicultural Education Age 3 to Grade 3, Early Childhood Multicultural Education Birth to Four, Secondary Education (Minor) and in Special Education/Elementary Education.
Applicants are invited to apply for a nine-month, open-rank faculty position with an annual contract starting in August, 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

The person selected for this position will teach day, evening, weekend and online courses undergraduate courses. In addition to teaching a normal teaching load of undergraduate courses, the selected candidate will be expected to serve as an advisor to undergraduate students, supervise student teachers, assist with recruitment and retention initiatives, participate in department and university committees, develop and maintain collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts, hold office hours as required, engage in scholarly activity that is related to Early Childhood Education, and work collaboratively with department faculty members to develop and strengthen the preparation of teacher candidates in the area of Early Childhood Education.

Successful candidate should have membership and involvement in one or more professional organizations, provide service to the community, and be available to represent New Mexico Highlands University at monthly meetings for the Early Childhood Higher Education Task Force in New Mexico.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctorate from an accredited institution in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required.
• ABD candidates will be considered if completion is expected within one Academic Year of appointment.
• Three or more years of classroom teaching experience with ages Infant – Grade 3.
• Experience with supervision of teacher candidates.

Preferred Qualifications

- Expertise in Early Childhood Multicultural Education
· Current Level II or Level III NM Teaching License
· Evidence of scholarly activity.
· Experience with outcomes assessment and CAEP Accreditation.
· Interest and commitment to working with diverse populations.
· Experience teaching children with exceptional abilities and supporting families.
· Teaching experience at the college/university level in the area of Early Childhood or a related area.
· Demonstrated interest in and commitment to outreach and collaboration with New Mexico Early Childhood communities.
· Demonstrated potential for excellence in professional development programs with pre and in-service teachers in Early Childhood settings.
· Experience designing and teaching synchronous/asynchronous online courses.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstration of excellent written and communication skills.
• Proficiency teaching and communicating with colleagues and students via electronic and digital modalities.
• Proficiency in the integration of technology to support teaching and learning.
• Proficiency in Desire to Learn, Bright-Space, or other Learning Management System.
• Proficiency with student advisement/information systems (e.g. Degree Audit and Banner)
