Job Summary:

The Rollins College Upward Bound Program is seeking three high school Math, Science, and/or English tutors. Upward Bound tutors work in collaboration with UB administrative staff and teachers to provide academic support for our program participants. Tutors must have a positive, proactive approach to working with teenagers on their research papers, essays, projects, and homework during summer. Tutors should be well organized, able to manage their time, and should have reliable transportation if they live off campus.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an academic resource to students by helping them understand, apply, and complete course content and assignments while modeling successful student activities.
  • Support the development of requisite academic skills of students and offers guidance in assisting students in reaching their academic goals.
  • Attend all tutor training and required meetings.
  • Maintain all records required to document student's attendance and academic progress.
  • Responsible for reporting tutoring work hours in Workday.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • B.A. or B.S. in a related field required.
  • Teaching experience (preferably high school - Math, Science, and English) is required.
  • Well organized and time management skills.
  • Ability to have reliable transportation if living off campus.

Level 2 Background Screening Requirement

As a condition of employment, the candidate must pass a Florida Level 2 Background Screening prior to their start date. The cost of the fingerprinting is the responsibility of the candidate. The cost is approximately $70.00+ and payment is collected when the appointment is scheduled. The candidate cannot start working until all background screening results are returned and cleared or until they have received an approved exemption.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with teenagers and economically disadvantaged students in a school setting.

Additional Position Information:
  • Employment Dates: June 5, 2023 - July 7, 2023

  • Schedule: Tutors will work Monday through Wednesday, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm - Report Time 5:20pm.

  • Compensation: Approximately $15.00 per hour. This is an Upward Bound grant funded position through the U.S. Department of Education and is contingent upon grant funding.

  • There are no benefits associated with this position.

About Upward Bound:

Upward Bound is a campus-based college-preparatory program assisting 72 college-bound high school students from Orange County. During the school year the program provides college-prep advancement instruction, guidance in preparing for college admission, tutorial services and academic advisement to further enhance the participants' academic development and preparation for post-secondary educational opportunities and curriculum advancement for the school year. Our students are motivated learners from socioeconomic backgrounds considered statistically less likely to complete a four-year degree. They range from general level to honors to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate.
