Position Description:
INSTRUCTOR (I2)
The School of Communication and Information – Communicology Program in the College of
Social Sciences, University of Hawai’i at Manoa (Honolulu, Hawai‘i 96822, United States) invites
applicants for the position of Instructor. This is a non-tenure track, full-time, permanent, 9-month,
faculty appointment to begin August 1, 2023, subject to position clearance and availability of
funds.

Duties:
Duties include teaching 12-credits per semester of mass lecture/labs for multi-section basic
human communication and public speaking courses as well as additional courses serving
program needs; directing graduate teaching assistants, participating in curriculum development,
providing service to the Program, School, College, and University, and other duties as assigned
by the Program director.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have:

  1. M.A. in Communicology or closely related discipline
  2. Experience teaching basic human communication and public speaking courses at the university level
  3. Demonstrated aptitude for course instruction at the university level
  4. Advanced pedagogical knowledge about both online and in-person instruction
  5. Strong communication and organizational skills
  6. Ability to direct graduate teaching and learning assistants

Desirable Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will also have:

  1. Ph.D. in Communication (or closely related discipline)
  2. Proven track record of effective course instruction in lower and upper-division communication courses at the University level
  3. Experience successfully teaching large lecture courses
  4. Commitment to undergraduate education
  5. Demonstrated ability to teach diverse student populations
  6. Demonstrated interest in, and the potential to contribute to, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  7. Interest in advancing instructional pedagogy in communication in both online and in-person formats
  8. Research program demonstrating theory-based quantitative approach to the study of human communication, in line with the Communicology program’s approach

Salary range: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
