Provost
Thomas Jefferson University, a premier national doctoral university seeks a dynamic, distinguished leader to serve as its next Provost to lead the University as it embarks on significant growth and diversification strategies.

Thomas Jefferson University was established on July 1, 2017, as a result of the merger of Jefferson Medical College and Philadelphia University. Thomas Jefferson University defies convention and dedicates itself to collaborative, transdisciplinary, and interprofessional approaches to teaching and learning (known on the undergraduate level as Nexus Learning) that offer a vibrant and expandable platform for an education that sets the alumni apart and makes them in demand by employers. The University now includes 8,400 full and part-time students and offers more than 200 undergraduate and graduate-level programs spanning architecture, business, design, engineering, fashion and textiles, health, medicine, science, social science, and more. Thomas Jefferson University is an R2 national doctoral research university with 10 colleges, and two schools focused on professional education. In 2022, the University received more than $200 million in sponsored research awards.

Reporting to the President of Thomas Jefferson University, the Provost is the Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for providing vision and driving innovation and creativity in the areas of educational policy, instructional planning, program review, academic personnel actions, faculty development, and resource planning and allocation. As the Chief Academic Officer, the Provost oversees educational programs, faculty and student affairs, and the execution of the research mission. Collaborating closely with the President and other Executive Officers, the Provost plays an important leadership role in articulating the University's strategic vision for its third century and realizing its successful implementation.

The Provost must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, research and education, student success, have entrepreneurial leadership experience, and evidence the ability to guide the change necessary for a professions-focused, research university to thrive and succeed. The Provost will have significant administrative and academic leadership experience, including a track record of success managing a highly complex organization.

Candidates must have the ability to lead, inspire and motivate the University community to achieve its academic vision, strategic plan, and corresponding milestones. The Provost should have the ability to build and maintain strong and collegial relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and members of the Thomas Jefferson University governing board. A sincere and abiding commitment to social justice and the demonstrated ability to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical. A doctorate from an accredited institution is required, as is a record of scholarship that merits appointment as a full professor at Thomas Jefferson University.

All expressions of interest and applications (including an updated Curriculum Vitae and a letter of interest) should be submitted using WittKieffer's candidate portal.

Nominations and inquiries can be directed to Joyce De Leo, Ph.D., Aaron Mitra, and Tricia Porter at TJUProvost@wittkieffer.com or by phone at (207) 401.2298.

Thomas Jefferson University values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other status protected by law.
