York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. York’s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Studies. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The college also offers five graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, and Social Work.

Located in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in New York State, the college enrolls 7,000 students from over 95 nations. Nine out of ten students are members of a racial/ethnic minority group, and more than half of undergraduates are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

The 50-acre campus encompasses seven buildings, including science and computer labs, music and television studios, a Performing Arts Center, and a Physical Education Center. It recently completed seven major constructions projects, with more scheduled for the future. In addition, its neighborhood is at the center of a renaissance fueled by economic revitalization.

The Department of History, Philosophy, and Anthropology at York College, the CityUniversity of New York seeks an anthropologist for a tenure-track position in Black Studies/Anthropology. We seek a dynamic scholar with a strong background in innovative, evidence-based teaching and evidence of an ability to develop a sustained program of original research.

Field: open, with a preference for cultural

Area of Specialization: African diaspora with preference for a Caribbeanist Area of Concentration: Africana studies, with preference for ability to teach

undergraduate quantitative and qualitative methods. We look for an individual who through their research and teaching seeks to build strong connections with New York City communities and institutions.

Teaching load is 6 courses/18 hours per year, with 18 hours of university-funded release time to be used across the first five years to support research. In addition to strong teaching and research, robust service to the department and the college is expected. We have small undergraduate Black studies major and minor programs with a rich history in the college and the community. The successful candidate will partner with students and faculty to update program curricula and expand the footprint of these programs in the college. The research and teaching should be aligned with CUNY’s Black, Race,

andEthnic Studies Initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise or equivalent. Also required are the abilities to teach effectively in multiple modalities (in person, asynchronous, synchronous, and hybrid); develop a sustained program of publishable scholarship and cooperate with others for the good of the department and institution.

COMPENSATION

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.

The salary range for this appointment is $70,238 - $90,375
