Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience

Location:  New Orleans, LA

Summary

The Assistant Director of the Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience will oversee the Center’s operations and programs, and manage the implementation of the Center’s goals, priorities, and mission. The Assistant Director is responsible for: (1) developing, leading, implementing, and improving operational, financial, and organizational systems that allow the Center to efficiently achieve its goals, priorities, and mission; (2) developing, implementing, and evaluating Center programs and events, ensuring that each program, and the Center’s annual program calendar, maximizes opportunities to align with and achieve Center goals, mission, and priorities; (3) ensuring that the Center’s digital and print media strategy, including promotional publications, Center websites, marketing, and Center social media channels, are effectively implemented and achieve Center goals, mission, and priorities; (4) identifying, cultivating, and maintaining relationships with scholarly and local community partners, and effectively broadening the scope of the Center’s impact; and (5) effectively completing donor reporting on-time, and for assisting the Director on preparation and/or completion of grant applications, donor communications, and other materials and processes necessary for the financial growth and responsible stewardship of the Center. The Assistant Director supervises Center staff and reports to, collaborates with, and supports the Center Director. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to a foster collaborative environment with a strong Center team and coordinate with other campus offices, units, and departments.

• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, establish work assignment priorities, delegate, and accomplish work independently and on-time.

• Excellent communication (written, oral, presentation) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt materials and interact respectfully with different constituencies and diverse backgrounds.

• Demonstrated ability to work at a high level with minimal supervision.

• Excellent critical and analytical thinking skills, including the ability strategize about Center systems and trajectories, problem solve, and devise and implement communication, outreach, and programming plans. 

• Ability to recognize operational challenges, negotiate issues, and implement effective solutions.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, and the ability to learn and implement new software, digital media, and technological systems.

• Ability to monitor and assist in the preparation of a budget and associated financial reporting.

• Ability to work irregular hours for events.

 

Required Education and/or Experience

• MA in Jewish Studies or related field, and 2 years managerial / operational experience 

OR

• Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years’ managerial / operational experience 

OR

• High School Diploma/Equivalent and 9 years’ managerial/ operational experience.

• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD (completed or ABD) in Jewish Studies or related field

• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience onboarding and supervising staff. 

• Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting.

• Familiarity with the intellectual contours of American Jewish Studies, academia, and the research process.

• Familiarity with Kronos, SciQuest, project management software, and Concur, or similar systems

• Ability to create, implement, or oversee a communications and publicity strategy, utilizing social media and marketing channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, among other digital platforms.

This position is a exempt, salaried position assigned to pay grade 25.
