Assistant Professor of Music - Voice

The University of Mobile invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music (Voice).  Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience.  The candidate will exemplify a strong Christian faith and exhibit a commitment to the University’s mission and core values.  The assistant professor will be expected to:

1. Teach applied voice to undergraduate and graduate students with an emphasis on classical and crossover style, including musical theatre and contemporary commercial music (CCM);
2. Teach other undergraduate and graduate courses in the Alabama School of the Arts,  beginning Fall 2023; possible areas of instruction include: diction, pedagogy, song literature;
3. Stage direct one to two operas per year, in addition to producing a MT / Opera scenes program.
4. Potential to serve as the Director of Opera, working with the voice faculty to select and cast appropriate operatic repertoire.
5. Participate in weekly departmental graduate and undergraduate voice masterclasses;
6. Perform in university concerts and programs, and in outside engagements in the community;
7. Advise and mentor students;
8. Serve on University committees;
9. Post and keep office hours each academic period;
10. Attend all University faculty meetings and required workshops;
11. Attend all department and college/school faculty meetings;
12. Assist with the recruitment, registration, and orientation of students;
13. Submit syllabi, credit hour forms, textbook orders, and grades according to scheduled due dates;
14. Attend and support University activities when possible;
15. Attend mandated University activities, including but not limited to, commencement ceremonies;
16. Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the Alabama School of the Arts and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Required Education/Experience: A doctoral degree in music from a regionally accredited institution is required. Evidence of success as a stage director, performing artist and applied teacher at the collegiate level required. Candidates should have an ongoing commitment to teaching and performing. A review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
