Job Description Summary
The Transportation Research Institute at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama is seeking candidates for an Assistant Research Professor position. This is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty position within Auburn University faculty family. Appointees in the research title series are expected to obtain external funding through grants and contracts to support their research programs. They are eligible for all the benefits of tenure track faculty except tenure and professional improvement leave. Reappointment and promotion in the research title series require demonstrated abilities to maintain a program of research supported by contracts and grants. All research title series positions are one-year contracts that may be renewed annually. Renewal is contingent upon performance and available funding. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin, and must continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
The focus of this position is in the area of transportation systems research, workforce development and technology transfer. Eligible candidates for this position must hold a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering at time employment begins and have at least two years of experience in two or more of the following areas: traffic microsimulation modeling, transportation reliability modeling, intelligent transportation systems, traffic optimization, and transportation planning. The successful candidate will be expected to provide oversight for the AUTRI ITS laboratory as well as participate in the workforce development activities of AUTRI’s Alabama Transportation Assistance Program. Candidates must be able to demonstrate substantial work in two or more of the above services and the salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. at the time of employment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a record of high quality research publications in referred journals and conference proceedings, and demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
