POSITION: The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts of Wayne State University is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Digital Arts in the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History. The job begins no later than August 17, 2023; salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach courses in Digital Art and may teach in other areas of the department that connect to the candidate’s research expertise. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, one of the following: UX/UI design,  game design, digital drawing, digital fabrication, digital imaging, animation, or print media. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, work on an individual basis with graduate students, conduct a program of creative and/or scholarly work, contribute to curriculum development and other aspects of the intellectual life of the department, and provide appropriate professional service. A typical teaching load is five courses per year. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking an exceptional artist/teacher with a strong research practice in digital art. At minimum, we require an MFA or Ph.D. in art, design or closely related field and evidence of creative work consistent with the expectations for a tenure track position at a research university. A minimum of 2 years teaching at the college level, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and willingness to mentor undergraduate and graduate students from diverse populations is also required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience teaching various aspects of digital art is preferred as is experience working across disciplinary boundaries.
