JOB SUMMARY:

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) at Northeastern University strives to create a community that is inclusive of all populations on campus. The Student Engagement Team is responsible for working closely with student leaders, campus partners, and student-driven committees to provide signature programming for the University using budgets funded by student fees. These events include, but are not limited to,: Relay for Life, Trash 2 Treasure, Fall Fest, Homecoming, Winter Involvement Fair, and support for events hosted by the Council for University Programs and Resident Student Association.

The Student Engagement Specialist is a full-time member of the team, reporting to the Associate Director of Student Engagement. The Specialist position focuses on and provides the advisement and developmental support of a diverse portfolio of University-recognized student organizations that range in size and scope.

This position requires frequent nights and weekends to ensure the success of divisional initiatives. The Specialist frequently assesses the needs of student leaders and developing plans for the enhancement and expansion of student organization resources and training, in addition to administrative program management responsibilities.

The Specialist works closely with campus partners such as Office of General Counsel, Risk Services, NUPD, and Event Management to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Facilitating CSI student leadership development opportunities; serving on departmental and university-wide collaborative initiatives that impact the student experience; assisting in the delivery of CSI and Division of Student Life events and initiatives (for example, assisting with Fraternity & Sorority recruitment processes); acting as a chaperone on CSI-sponsored trips; and all other duties as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Program Management -

Provide event planning support to a portfolio of student organizations and serve as a team member within the administrative workflow. Informs students of policies and helps with coordinating of their programs. Communicate effectively with performers, vendors, agents & middle-agents. Meet with student organizations to develop a vision and budget for their events.

Signature Events -

Responsible for the organizing, planning and execution of certain signature events on campus that may include Fall Fest, Homecoming, Winter Involvement Fair, and the Student Life Awards

Other Duties and Logistics -

Facilitate CSI student leadership development opportunities. Support major events and initiatives that originate within the CSI. Improve customer service and student development. Represent CSI on various division-wide committees. Perform other duties as assigned that are necessary for team success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in College Student Development or related field preferred with comparable consideration for years of service.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with college students and student affairs programs.
  • The Student Engagement Specialist must be able to work independently on a fast-paced, global campus and possess a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • The successful candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills and exceptional interpersonal, organizational, verbal/written communication skills.
  • As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Student Engagement Specialist will align his/her/their work with the established mission, vision, and literacies of the division.
