The University of Saint Joseph's Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant/associate professor position in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in support of the chemistry, biochemistry, biology and allied health science majors as well as graduate courses for the department's master's programs in chemistry and biochemistry beginning in August 2023. The Department of Chemistry offers BS programs in Chemistry (ACS approved) and Biochemistry (ASBMB accredited) and MS programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry (both fully online).
Responsibilities include teaching lecture and laboratory courses for undergraduate courses for majors and non-majors. This position will also involve teaching fully online, asynchronous advanced organic chemistry courses such as Advanced Organic Chemistry Mechanisms and Advanced Organic Chemistry Synthesis for the online master's programs. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active scholarship program that leads to publications and will be expected to involve students in chemistry and biochemistry in supervised research.
The position requires an earned doctorate in chemistry or a closely related field. Strong ABD candidates will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates whose specialty areas are organic chemistry. Candidates with postdoctoral experiences are preferred. The successful candidates will have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching organic chemistry at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Applicants with teaching experience, familiarity with innovative teaching methods that focus on student engagement and inclusivity with the ability to reach diverse learners and a strong desire to teach on-line courses along with a working knowledge of on-line classroom management will be given priority.
