Summary

The Department of Psychology in the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences welcomes applicants for the administrator position of Director of the Center for Psychological Services and Development (CPSD). The CPSD serves as a practical component of the department’s graduate training program, bridging the gap between coursework, research, and practice. Our doctoral students work closely with licensed faculty supervisors to provide high-quality treatment and assessment based on the most current research, prioritizing the use of evidence-based approaches. The CPSD offers outpatient services to members of the VCU and Central Virginia communities. Services are available to individuals of all backgrounds and a wide range of ages - from preschoolers to seniors - and couples and families of all types.

The Director serves as the key leader at the CPSD, providing vision and guidance to CPSD staff members, trainee therapists, and the supervising team. The Director coordinates with PhD program leadership to ensure the CPSD training experiences are consistent with the programs’ aims. Further, the Director serves as a formal and informal teacher, supervisor, and clinical role model to trainees rotating through the CPSD. The Director also functions as a liaison to community agencies and other stakeholders.

Administrators provide administrative management of one or more functional units, departments, or business units. They are typically responsible for overseeing and coordinating all administrative affairs, with strategic management of daily operations as a primary purpose. The role may have direct and indirect reports. They typically serve as liaisons between internal departments or functional areas in order to achieve operational goals and serve as a resource to lower-level staff. Their decision-making has a significant impact on service delivery and student success. Administrators work under intermittent supervision, resolving complex issues independently and referring unprecedented issues to a higher level. They typically report to executive or senior leadership. NOTE: The primary purpose of the administrator job is the strategic management of daily operations and not primarily supervision, although the role may have direct and indirect reports.

NOTE: Maintain established portfolio driven knowledge base of federal and state laws and regulations, sponsor guidance as well as university policies and compliance notices, with ability to consistently interpret and apply accurately.
