Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the leadership of the Director, Treasury and Special Projects, the Accountant prepares, maintains, analyzes, verifies, and reconciles complex financial transactions, statements, and records. Maintains the accuracy of the College’s ledgers and subsidiary ledgers for assigned accounts, including the fixed assets systems. This position will also assist with the annual audit and year-end closing and provides assistance to other staff, management, and various colleagues in Business Services, Information Technology, and others throughout the College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Fixed Asset and Capital Projects Support

Analyzes purchases and works with other departments to determine items to be capitalized, tagged, and recorded as fixed assets. Ensures this information is recorded timely and accurately through the College ERP system and that depreciation expenses are properly recorded. Removes assets from the records when disposed of. Reviews and reconciles fixed asset-related entries for accuracy and completeness. Assists with fixed asset inventory. Records and performs similar activities for capitalized leases.

General Accounting
Summarizes financial positions. Prepares financial and operational reports, statements, and projections. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and fund balances. Assists in monthly and year-end closing processes and activities. Documents all types of business transactions to the general ledger. Reconciles and corrects general ledger accounts with subsidiary ledgers. Reconciles complex transactions. Analyzes, verifies, and posts transactions to journals, ledgers, and other records. Analyzes, investigates, and corrects accounting entries as needed. Keeps accurate records.

Completes and maintains required documentation. Performs internal audits of financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations and procedures. Completes bank reconciliations, including researching unmatched items to ensure proper recording of transactions to the general ledger. May perform fiscal responsibilities for other areas as needed.

Customer Service
Collaborates with other College departments and vendors as needed. Provides appropriate and timely responses through various communication channels.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Attends all required department meetings and training. Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule to support workload. Works approved overtime as needed to meet business demands.

Knowledge of:
Generally accepted accounting principles; generally accepted auditing standards, fund accounting; general ledger management; accounts payable and receivable administration; graphical presentation of data, computers, software programs, and enterprise applications, including cloud applications, to include Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and accounting programs and software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An Associate Degree in Accounting or a closely related field and one (1) year of related experience.

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to the work site.
