SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York.  The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.  An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.

Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for a grant-funded Senior Staff Assistant in the Entrepreneurial Assistance Center (EAC) working under the direction of the Program Director.

SUNY Broome is one of 24 Entrepreneurial Assistance Centers in the State of New York offering one-on-one small business assistance, essential business management educational sessions, and business networking opportunities, local community connections, business model and business start-up plan development programs - including the Entrepreneurial Assistance Center 60-Hour Program, and individual consulting and coaching by successful entrepreneurs and well-established business owners, experts, and consultants.  The SUNY Broome Entrepreneurship Assistance Center is possible through a grant from Empire State Development through the City of Binghamton's Local Development Corporation along with local partners - Broome-Tioga Workforce NY and the Broome County Urban League.  The EAC is located at the Koffman Southern Tier incubator at 120 Hawley Street, Binghamton, NY  13901.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquiring Entrepreneurial Assistance Center (EAC) clients
  • Plans 60-hour program {Planning syllabus, arranges guest speakers; classroom logistics, and works with instructor(s)}.
  • Facilitates Client Advisory Group, coordinates business plan competition (judges schedule, awards event) to prepare participants for small business start-up.
  • Recruits and builds rapport with EAC clients providing information and mentoring regarding classes, process and other issues and gives advice on community resources available to entrepreneurs.
  • Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of New York State processes for available grants/loans and Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) certification eligibility to guide applicants in completion of complex processes for certification.
  • Ensures compliance to New York Empire State Development grant directives.  Prepares detailed reports and maintains all Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP) records using the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program online database.
  • Represents SUNY Broome's entrepreneurship programs throughout community attending tradeshows, giving presentations, and participating in groups such as the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Women Business Owner Roundtable, Chambers of Commerce and Binghamton and Southern Tier NY Business events regarding entrepreneurism, MWBE certifications and EAP program benefits.
  • Coordinates with the Workforce Development and Continuing Education to develop program offerings (including micro credentials) related to small business development as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with consultants working in conjunction with the EAC related grant programs.
  • Attends Empire State Development's State-wide meetings concerning changes, updates, and modifications to program; take part in ongoing webinars and annuals conferences.

The successful candidate will also have the following skills and abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of New York State certification process.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.

Additional training and education in the applicable administrative field is desirable.

Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working in an educational institution or in a related administrative function desired.  Preference given to those with experience in Small Business Development, Entrepreneur Assistance or Program Development.

Human services experience or additional experience with any of the functional responsibilities of the position is preferred.

One (1) year of supervisory experience is required.

Additional Information:

The annual salary for this position is $46,561.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
