Assistant Professor of Tuba & Euphonium


Summary
The University of Tennessee at Martin invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Tuba &
Euphonium. Tenure track, full time (9-month). Start date: August 1, 2023.
Duties
Artist/teacher of tuba and euphonium (tuba, primary instrument): Teach undergraduate applied tuba
and euphonium, chamber music, and other courses commensurate with departmental needs and
individual expertise. The position requires active involvement in recruitment, community outreach, and
collaborative performances with faculty and students. Additional teaching assignments may include music
theory, music history, music education, brass methods, and chamber music.
Qualifications
The Department of Music is seeking an excellent performer who is dedicated to teaching. The successful
candidate will possess credentials and experience appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant
Professor, including:
• A completed doctorate in music is preferred; candidates who are ABD with a specified completion
date, will be considered. A terminal degree is required for promotion or tenure consideration at
any rank
• Evidence of successful applied studio teaching
• Experience and excellence as a performer
• Proven success in student recruitment and retention
• Demonstrated potential for professional growth in scholarly and/or creative activity
• Training and experience in music education is preferred
Appointment
Nine-month, tenure-track appointment commencing August 1, 2023.

About the University
The University of Tennessee at Martin is a primary campus in the University of Tennessee System. The
campus is located in Northwest Tennessee approximately 125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles
west of Nashville. The University of Tennessee at Martin has a growing enrollment of approximately
7,000 students. The emphasis is solidly on excellence in undergraduate instruction. We seek candidates

About the Department of Music
The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of
Schools of Music. The department has fourteen full-time faculty members, four adjunct instructors and three
administrative staff, serving approximately eighty-five music majors, minors and other campus musicians.
Curricular offerings include a Bachelor of Music degree with majors in music education, performance, and
pedagogy; a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree; a minor in music, and several certificate programs that can be
pursued in addition to the primary degree.
UT Martin is an All-Steinway School operating out of the state-of-the-art, recently renovated Fine Arts
Building. Hosting around 100 performances and events each year, the UT Martin Department of Music is the
principal cultural hub of Northwest Tennessee. Our mission is to enhance the intellectual and artistic life of
