NYU Shanghai invites applications for a full-time inaugural Academic Director and Professor of Practice (Open Rank) for its Institute for Cities and Real Estate in Emerging Markets (ICREEM).

The Institute is devoted to training and research about the Chinese and other emerging real estate and development markets. The Institute focuses on academic programs serving graduate students, short-term training for industry professionals, and convenes regularly for promoting expert discourse around important issues.

The inaugural Academic Director and Professor of Practice (Open Rank) will be the primary person responsible for the advancement and development of the ICREEM. He / she will spearhead the launch and operation of a new Master’s in Global Real Estate program, a joint degree between NYU Shanghai and the NYU School of Professional Studies, continuing education offerings and other professional development programming, and all research and other academic activities associated with the Institute. The Director will also teach courses and lead the growth of the ICREEM’s programs in China and Asia broadly.

The successful candidate will also oversee the operations of the Institute, building a faculty, supervising staff, directing admissions, engaging with external partners, and promoting the student experience as well as alumni relations.

He / she will work closely with the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate and Advanced Education and NYU SPS Schack Institute. He / she will also work closely with the ICREEM advisory board. The ability to teach courses relating to Chinese real estate markets, real estate finance, real estate development, and / or similar topics is preferred.

The Institute is a sister center of the NYU School of Professional Studies Schack Institute of Real Estate, which has been at the forefront of real estate education for more than 50 years. The NYU SPS Schack Institute is recognized globally as one of the world’s leading centers of research and industry engagement, with almost 5,000 alumni working globally. Candidates must have a graduate or professional degree (PhD, MBA, or similar) as well as prior teaching or equivalent professional experience, a record of scholarly achievement, and an enthusiastic commitment to higher education. Candidates with deep experience relating to China and who are fluent in Chinese are preferred.

This is a Full-Time Continuing Contract Faculty (FTCC) position. Typical initial appointments are on 12-month terms of 3 years with the possibility of long-term renewal. Rank, either Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or full Professor of Practice, will be commensurate with experience.

The position is based primarily in Shanghai. If relocation is necessary, NYU Shanghai can provide an allowance toward covering such related costs.
