REVISED:  To extend application deadline from August 27, 2021 to September 27, 2021

Samford University’s School of Public Health invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of chair of the Department of Public Health at the full professor rank beginning August 2022. This full-time tenure-track faculty position is a 12 -month appointment and carries a 2-2-1 teaching load.

The chair will oversee three degree programs within the Department (BS, MPH and DrPH) and a minor in Public Health. Chair responsibilities include scheduling courses, managing curriculum assessment, evaluating faculty, overseeing the departmental budget, and providing vision for the program.  These tasks as chair are in addition to the expectations of all public health faculty:  teaching courses from across the entire undergraduate and graduate public health curriculum, advising students, and providing departmental, college, university, and professional service.

Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. from an institutionally accredited university in Biostatistics or a closely related quantitative field in public health. Experience in analytics is required. Candidates should possess substantial university administrative experience. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is required. Candidates must possess demonstrated track record in obtaining and supporting extramural funding along with a teaching, research and academic record commensurate with full professor rank in Samford University’s Department of Public Health.

The College of Health Sciences includes four schools: Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, School of Health Professions, and School of Public Health. The college offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with an interprofessional education focus that reflects today’s team approach to healthcare delivery and professional practice. The Department of Public Health has 4 full-time faculty positions.  The department serves nearly approximately 100 majors and growth is expected.

Samford University (www.samford.edu) is the largest privately supported and fully accredited institution for higher learning in Alabama. Applications will be accepted beginning July 16, 2021.  Review of applications will begin August 15, 2021 and continue until September 27, 2021.  Applications will no longer be accepted after September 27, 2021.  Please submit a letter of application, curriculum vita with names and contact information of three references, evidence of teaching effectiveness, description of leadership experience, research interests and activities, application for faculty position, and faculty applicant Christian mission statement. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.  The successful candidate must pass a background check. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, as Samford will not sponsor any employment visas for this position.  Samford University and the School of Public health embrace diversity in their faculty, students, and staff and encourage applications from those who would add to the diversity of our academic community.
