The Assistant Director for Undergraduate Assessment develops and manages processes for continuous improvement informed by data and assessment for OUE. In collaboration with OUE leadership, the Assistant Director for Undergraduate Assessment builds and supports OUE’s culture of assessment and continuous improvement in pursuit of excellence. This position also oversees and leads division-wide planning, research, and program evaluation related to ongoing improvement and innovation of OUE’s programs, services, and other initiatives; supports the management and oversight of OUE data; and is responsible for disseminating evidence of OUE’s impact through this work via reports, websites, professional conferences, and other forums as appropriate. The position reports to the Director of Undergraduate Analytics & Planning in OUE.  

Responsibilities 

 OUE Assessment and Outcomes Reporting 

Oversees the coordination and development of unit assessment plans for all OUE units, ensuring alignment with unit, OUE, and Institute strategic plans and goals 

Provides consultation to OUE units on assessment and related projects; assists OUE units in developing and implementing both indirect and direct assessment methods and tools, including surveys, focus groups, and rubrics to assess learning/program outcomes, satisfaction, or evaluation of programs and services; ensures established principles of measurement theory, survey design, and other methodologies are used to develop valid and reliable instruments for assessment 

Assists with annual and assessment reports for OUE that summarize programmatic and other assessment outcomes 

Designs and writes other reports and articles summarizing results of assessment activities and survey research, including “briefing” reports from national surveys and other studies related to undergraduate education at Georgia Tech 

Creates and offers workshops and other professional development on assessment topics; ensures all new OUE staff receive training on assessment and related policies/procedures (onboarding and ongoing); chairs OUE committees; maintains a comprehensive OUE assessment website; identifies other methods for dissemination of OUE’s assessment and outcomes reporting 

Liaises and meets regularly with Georgia Tech’s Office of Academic Effectiveness (OAE) to ensure OUE assessment and outcomes are in alignment with Institute priorities, standards, and methods 

Data Analyses, Coordination, and Management 

Compiles and analyzes data using qualitative analysis techniques, statistical methodologies, and analysis software; creates and maintains data elements documentation 

Develops and maintains a comprehensive set of current and longitudinal program and success metrics for all OUE units 

As requested, integrates data and infographics into OUE publications, websites, presentations, and reports 

Works with Georgia Tech’s Institutional Research & Planning (IRP), Enterprise Data Management (EDM), Registrar’s Office, OAE, and other offices to fulfill data requests for OUE in accordance with Institute policy and practices and/or to create actionable business intelligence tools that meet the specifications of OUE programs and services 

Designs, implements, and analyzes a variety of surveys for OUE units utilizing best practices in survey design methodology including sample design, data collection methods, statistical analysis of data, and analysis of survey errors; prepares reports and briefings on results 

Supports data collection methods and data storage throughout OUE following all Institute policies and best practices 

Planning and Research 

Assists with writing reports and narratives for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation standards assigned to OUE and for other initiatives, such as program review; University System of Georgia (USG) requests; funding proposals; and presentations to state, national, or international associations 

Assists with strategic planning and related initiatives of OUE 

Collaborates with leadership and other stakeholders to identify, define, and create solutions for division and unit challenges; gathers and analyzes data to facilitate development of recommendations; and develops reports with findings and outcomes 

Other Duties 

Serves on (or as requested, chairs) committees, task forces, and other working groups related to assessment or related areas in OUE or Georgia Tech 

Performs other duties as requested in support of OUE and/or as assigned 

Required Qualifications 

A Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree from a research-intensive university in social sciences, education, quantitative disciplines, or a related field; candidates who have completed all coursework for the terminal degree and who are within two years of completion of that degree will also be considered 

Demonstrated ability to assess student learning and program outcomes, using both quantitative and qualitative methods 

Direct experience with data analysis, data management, analytics, and related tools and systems 

Experience with educational survey development and analysis using survey design packages such as Qualtrics 

Knowledge of issues in undergraduate education, particularly within STEM 

Demonstrated ability in research and report writing, including the ability to summarize and present complex analysis of data to varied audiences and constituents 

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 

Experience with basic statistics, spreadsheet/database management, and statistical analysis packages (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS) 

Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff members from diverse backgrounds on assessment projects 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications 

Professional experience in a research-intensive university setting 

Direct experience in assessment of academic affairs programs and services, including at least one year of professional experience overseeing academic affairs assessment within a higher education setting 

Knowledge of data visualization and related infographic-type software platforms such as Tableau, PowerBI, Kibana 

Excellent organization and planning, prioritization, problem-solving, follow through, and time management 

Proposed Salary 

This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, academic faculty position at the rank of academic professional. The successful candidate will be hired at the Academic Professional (AP), Associate AP, Senior AP, and/or Principal AP level commensurate with experience and upon review/approval by Georgia Tech’s Office of Faculty Affairs. Candidates near the end (within 1-2 years) of such a terminal degree program may be considered; continued employment would be contingent on completion of degree.
